I want balcony tickets but they seem to be all gone! Damn. Try standing for 3 hours listening to Damien Rice, it's harsh on the legs!

Pedestrian (american band) are supporting and they're really good.

I enjoyed Pedestrian the last time they supported him here. Nice.

Yea looks like Balcony is gone for both nights. Girlfriend said she isnt bothered going if she has to stand, I don't blame her either.

the one that starts "you keep me i a glass jar sealed with a label", i think its called 'sand'.

    check it out.

EDIT: its actually the 2nd song.

maybe they've saved some for the general sale?

Yeah I imagine they'll be plenty of balcony tickets on sale on Saturday, after all yesterday was only the presale.

BTW Joel Shearer from Pedestrian will be playing guitar/doing vocals with Damien and there's also a violinist who's names escapes me...actually its Cora venus lunny (whoever she is! She has a website here)

Got to agree Sand is great though I don't think he's played it in a good few years. He originally said it was going to be on the 3rd album, but then again he said the follow-up to O would be out in December 2002!

Thanks Mr Rivers for pre-sale code, much apreciated

queued at Sound Store Drogheda, they only had 4 tickets. no use when 4th in line.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 226 ✭✭Closing Doors

Apparently there was something of a f*ck-up and most of the tickets were gone in the pre-sale. Don't go looking on ebay just yet they might release more. I remember the first time I went to see him he hadn't played in Ireland all year and tickets were going for crazy amounts outside Vicar St...€200-ish

Edit: apparently Road Records had some left as of 5.30. Happy Hunting...

got my tickets in the presale, cant wait.

and yup, its Donal Lunny's daughter - what a legend! Well.. he is, i've never heard his daughter play, but with a father like him i can only imagine :D

and as said above ^, damo has SO many more songs than on "O", and a lot of them are just as great..

    Hey,
Did anyone go and see Damien Rice last night in Vicer St. Is he having a bit of a laugh at this stage. I went to see him loadsa times years ago, but as I'd seen him so many times, and there was no new albums I haven't gone to see him in over 3 years. So when tickets went on sale this time, I said yes, sure we'll go and see what his new stuff is like...What? 4 years after the album...any new stuff, about 3 new songs. Bit mad really! I mean if you've been into him a long time you get shafted...buy his singles for the b-sides...what does he do; come out with a b-sides album, go and see him before his album is released, and we're still seeing the same stuff. BAd form I think, plus he didn't really conect, people were visibly getting bored? Anyone else go?

he played loads of new stuff on Tuesday night...but wasn't in a great mood, better mood on Wednesday night, not as much new stuff.

I have to say I went to see him solo in Montreal during the summer and he was amazing! So much fun, interacting with the crowd, getting drunk on stage...like the good ol' damo used do but I felt these last 2 nights he was trying to put on a show more than have fun.

The audience on Tuesday night was crap too, full of knackers, I suppose that's what ya get for bein played on FM104 and the like.

I must say I really enjoyed Accidental Babies and Nine Crimes....sigh I get butterflies just thinking about it....such a great song Accidental Babies...it's the lyrics more than the melody.

i was there Wednesay, and was blown away.

i am somewhat besotted with the man and everything he does... but even from an unbiased view, i think he was great.
corwd seemed much better on wednesday.
when lisa sang the high "operatic" bit in Eskimo, the place was so silent i was afraid to sneeze...
    magic.

my favourite new song is the "I only really wanted to be wanted by you" one. and Accidental Babies is beautiful too. so simple.. thats what makes it so good

Maybe he should concentrate on releasing a new album before he decides to go gigging again. He certainly flogged 'O' to death. Don't get me started on the ridiculous b-sides he felt the need to inflict on the country; how many versions of that bloody 'Volcano' song is there?!

his new album is out decemberish.

tbh i prefer artists that tour more than record more, well only if they don't play the same set all the time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 274 ✭✭Beastieboy

ye, i'd love to see him releasing a new album...... was happy to see the gig last tuesday though, and thought that it was pretty good with the exception of the guys howling excessively, and generally taking the piss...... I could generally sympathise with Damien's distant disposition....he's got some pretty hardcore fans, and it must be pretty daunting staring down the barrel of a crowd that has such high expectations and (from reading some DR fan forums) could let down so easily.....

Just to add.....Damien was so fcuking right to tell the crowd to put their phones away....i just don't fcuking understand that..... if your not going to let yourself enjoy the moment why the fcuk collect these second class memories......

Believe it when I see it, I remember seeing him live about 5 times before O and each time the release date was moved back. I prefare bands that tour allot too, but he's taking the p*ss now. I mean he NEEEDs to release his new album, I used to be ahardcore fan...now I just think he's good, but went with a few mates the other night and all of us came out dissapointed. I mean I've been going to see Josh Ritter about the same time, but he's knocked out 2 albums, and his shows are always different...makes a huge difference!

Let me start by saying I called myself one of his absolute biggest fans ever from 2002 until about 2005. But that damn second album!! Damien just had something to get off his chest, and that's basically what 'O' was. Maybe he has said all he was ever going to say. New album shmoo album. I don't know anyone who isn't sick of hearing him talk about it coming out "some time".

And it's 2006!! The Vicar St gig on the 30th was cool enough, but I was bored, SO SO bored!! I started to wonder why I even bought the tickets! I guess it was outta curiousity. I loved seeing him live back in 2003/2004 and to some extent 2005. But it's 2006 and he's still doing the exact same gig. Creativity, despite the image he has projected onto his adoring public, no longer seems to ever have been his strong point. Eventually boring his fans to an almost literal death? That does.
