(Sky) Credit where it's Due

I came home this evening and found a letter from Sky, which said that, as they cannot roll out broadband in Ireland yet, they were offering €75 off the cost of a HD box. I ordered a HD box a month ago, but have not got it yet, so I rang Sky to see if I could get the money off. Surprise, surprise, I got through to an excellent rep. who told me that if I wanted to avail of the offer, I'd have to cancel and re-order. (and go back to the end of the queue). Instead, he suggested I just take €75 credit on my Sky bill, and did it for me instantly. And he moved my delivery date up as well! I've had some frustrating calls with Sky over the past, this guy was brilliant, and I'm a delighted customer now :)

so if you are in the same boat, give them a call!!

Was thinking of upgrading to HD soon so this letter was a pleasant surprise. What kind of date have they given you?

It was three months from the date I made the order - ordered on 9th of June, orginal date was 9th Sept, been moved to 1st of September now. I know it's not a lot, but I'm travelling in Sep, so it makes things a lot easier. One thing that did annoy me was that they take the money off your c/c straight away..

by the way, they are also offering €35 off a Sky+ box.

Also being discussed here and here. Cynical I know, but I don't see where credit comes into it. It's just marketing, building awareness of (and demand for, not such a bad thing) a forthcoming broadband product, and bumping Sky+ and HD numbers.

They just said that they can't get the units from the manufacturers quickly enough... I've seen a few sky stands around the malls, I'm not sure if you can get the boxes in, say, Dixons, so you maybe able to do it quicker that way. The woman who took the booking said that I could ring after a month or so and they might be able to bump it up, but yer man today was saying they still have a huge waiting list. It had better be worth it!

How much is Sky+ for existing customers at the moment?

Got one of those letters myself this morning. Its about time Sky did something for existing customers instead of looking after new customers all the time.

I got the letter too, still not worth it, IMO. I hate $ky's attitude to their existing customers.

just noticed in the small print of the letter that the offer is available until June 2007!!!! As an aside does anyone know if the free broadband that SKY is offering in the UK is through the phone lines or is it satellite through their dish?

Through the phone lines. Standard ol ADSL

Not wishing to put a downer on things, but I saw Sky HD in operation in a demo last week, and frankly it was no better than my standard Sky. I'm not at all inclined to move for this until they bring the price way down, modest (€75) special offer or not.

I'd wait a while before getting HD tbh, the quantity of programmes being made hardly justifies having it.

I find that very hard to believe, either it wasn't a HD set, you weren't looking at a HD channel or you're somewhat hard of sight!

While it's debatable whether it's worth the extra due to the limited number of HD channels on stream yet there is no question that HD programming on a HD set is a magnitude better than standard.
