character recognition OCR software

Does anyone know of any open source or just free OCR software that works on Windows? I've been looking around and all i could find was linux versions. BTW, OCR is a piece of software that converts a scanned picture of text into a text file.

Almost all scanners these days will have OCR software bundled with it. Here is OCR freeware: http://www.simpleocr.com/

I haven't tried it though so I can't comment on it.
