    Hi everyone,

I am flying out to the Caribbean on Saturday. (thought I'd get that in there :)

On my ticket it states check-in time is 6:30 and my flight is at 8:30.

What time should I be at Dublin airport at? Luckily, I have a lift so transport isn't a problem.

Apologies for what might be a silly question. I'll be travelling on my own so I'm a little nervous.

    Thanks,
    A.

Maybe get there for 6:00, you then have loads of time to find the checkin desk and calm your nerves! The desk will probably not open til 6:30 though, but you will be first in the queue :)

    Have a fantastic time.

If you're flying direct, the desk probably doesn't open until 6:30, although usually for long haul the desks open three hours in advance.

If you're flying via UK and are taking an AL flight for the first leg, you can check in as early as you like as all UK flights check in at the same desks. Don't forget to check your luggage through so that you don't have to collect it and check in again. If you check your luggage through you only have to get your boarding pass in the UK airport.

Let me know if you're flying via UK (particularly Heathrow) if you need more info.

Thanks mikedragon32, I'm flying with British Airways. I have to fly into Gatwick. I fly out of the same terminal I fly into. I have 50mins between flights, tight I know but I rang the relavent people and they said that should be plenty of time.

How do I make sure to check my luggage through?

Tell them at check in. When they see your ticket they'll probably ask you anyway. Also ask if it's possible to check onto the BA flight, that way you only have to collect your boarding pass in Gatwick. With only 50mins between flights there's not much scope for delays etc, so anything you can do to save time in Dublin, you should do. It may also be possible to prebook your seat on the BA flight online. Worth taking a look on their website to check.

Gatwick is a better airport for transit imho (compared to Heathrow). It can be difficult to follow the signs to find your way around LHR. At least in LGW you're in the one terminal, you'll only have to follow signs to the transit lounge.

The BA check in agents at Dublin should be able to check your luggage straight through, and issue your boarding pass for your onward BA flight (assuming they're both on the same ticket). Also do try ba.com, and see if it will let you check in on-line..it's very handy if it will.

Early Saturday morning is the busiest time in Dublin Airport. It's highly unlikely that arriving at 6am will put you top of the queue at check-in. Passengers usually begin arriving steadily from 4am.
