So...Alonso or Schumacher? The new points system has certainly given Alonso the advantage but you can't really rule Schumacher and Ferrari out. Massa still has a huge part to play and is doing a better job than Fischi.

Unlucky in the last race but a brilliant change of tactics at the right time for Alonso.

After Schumi retires I can see Alonso becoming his replacement...Whereby rules are changed so he stops winning and people complain that he is killing the sport, etc...

As far as i know theres 17 points in it with 7 races to go.
Better season by far than last and if shumacher takes 2 points per race out of alonso(meaning he has to finish first in every race-not likely) makes 14 points, giving alonso the title by 3. Its a group effort for ferrari. We all schumacher can do it, put i feel the fate of ferrari the season is with Massa. If he cant uphold his position as support role and keep up with schumacher then alonso will win it again which would be a shame really as i cant stand flavio briatore and his renault team. However if ferrari take it this year, doubt they'll have much to woory about for 2007 as the McLaren is still very much a WIP and Alonso changing teams, he'll be out of the equation for while anyway. Raikkonnen to Ferrari!!!! He knows he'll will get the car he deserves.

This is said again and again. How does it give Alonso the advantage? Its the same for all drivers. Alonso has simply been the better more consistent driver so far this season. Same as last season with Mcclaren.

From what I've been hearing Schumacher doesn't want Raikkonnen, he seems pretty happy to retain his #1 status as long as he is there. Besides, I can;t see any driver who believes themself to be a title contender willingly becoming a Ferrari #2.

I cant see Kimmi going to Renault. They have always had a very rigid pay structure like Williams and dont break it for anyone. Kimmi makes roughly $20m a year with Mclaren which is about $15m more then Alonso. Renault need him though. Kimmi and Renault is almost unbeatable.

If Schumi is to be in with a genuine shout, then Alonso needs a DNF and soon

I'm not particularly bothered who wins the championship. All I really want is for it to go right down to the wire - something which hasn't happened since 1999. It's disastrous when the championship is won in August or September, and the last 4 or 5 races feel effectively pointless.

The last time the championship went down to the wire was in 2003, not 99. In japan 03, Raikkonen needed Schumacher to not finish and Kimi had to win the race, Schumacher got one point and Kimi took 2nd in the race, it finished 93 pts to Kimi's 91.

Tempting as it is to say the momentum is with Ferrari, it looked that way when they won two races earlier in the year too.

One thing though is that Alonso is starting to look rattled, very ragged driving in France and he was awful in Indy. Plus you have to wonder just how much resources Michelin are putting into bouncing back when they've already announced their withdrawal for the sport.

I'd love to see Ferrari do it but with the points the way they are it's still hard to look past Renault. Just takes one DNF and it's wide open though.
