Wii-In the making

Maybe not the best site to get news of but lets hope its true
In CNN's Game Over section, Chris Morris speculates that the Nintendo Wii may beat the PlayStation 3 to store shelves. According to American Technology Research, Nintendo has already begun manufacturing Wii consoles. Morris says that so far, Sony has yet to begin manufacturing its own next-generation console, the PlayStation 3. Microsoft began putting together Xbox 360s 69 days before its November 22 launch date in 2005.

If Nintendo adheres to a similar schedule, the Wii could be ready for consumers as early as late September. However, most industry experts, such as P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research, believe October is a much more likely shelf date. So far, Nintendo hasn't released any further details about the Wii launch, and that means no official price or date is currently available. You can check out the complete CNN article right here.

We've sent a request to Nintendo for a comment, but haven't heard back yet.
October is good enough for me:)

Ahh but will it be an October release for us EU scum?, surely everyone knows by now we're the leper like country cousin Nintendo treats like ****e. I still reckon we won't see it until Christmas, Nintendo is probably far more concerned with the U.S. and home market for October..

I really wish they'd hurry up and give us a solid date. All this speculation is driving me crazy... for all anyone know's it could be next summer before the thing actually gets released.

    Don't suppose anywhere's taking pre-orders yet ?

I'd say that Nintendo with try and aim for a global release like the xbox360 tried to do.

So that would mean it would deffo be out before Christmas.

I'd say it's more likely we will have to wait 6-9 months after the US release just like with the DS.

I'm guessing October or November for Japan and the States, and then March for us, just like the DS, Gamecube and N64. Despite whatever gash NoE like to make up, Nintendo are as bad as ever when it comes to European delays.

The DS wasn't as bad as Nintendo usually are. That came out in europe only 9 weeks after the US launch. The US launch was actually before the Japanese launch. 9 weeks is far better than the 9 month wait for the PSP.

I also think the worldwide release of the PS3 will be as much a sham as the 360 launch. In other words don't expect to be able to pick one up until March.

Still I don't want them to go back to the old days with over 1 year wait for the SNES and N64 and about 9 months for the GC.

There's always the chance that the comparitivly cheaper and presumably easier to produce technology in the Wii will allow for a universal (or close to it) release date.

    *fingers crossed*

...then again, if they were planning to stagger the release, it would be a good reason not to have announced it yet (at E3 for example), allowing all us consumers to concentrate on the good news for a few months before it all turns sour.

    ???

I think we'll see the wii in europe before christmas. If not then I'll buy a US version.

Will the US version work on our TVs?

If the TV can display NTSC 60Hz like all modern TVs then there should be no problem.

You'll need a power transformer to plug it in, though. Which isn't a major hassle, but worth mentioning to avoid melting the console and getting Wii all over your carpet.

and getting Wii all over your carpet.
How long did it take to think that one up?
    LOL

Smyths are taking deposits on the Wii for a November release date. What's all this about 6-9 months later?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,603 ✭✭✭Gangsta

how much is it going to cost?

Cool, must get my name down. I'm willing to bet it's pure speculation on Smyths part though, re: November release date. There's been no date officially announced (rumours suggest anywhere from late September to November).

Again, nothing officially announced yet. Probably ~€250.

yup 3rd November is what Smyths told me.

There was something on the Rapture TV channel yesterday (Sky Digital) about Wii having a late September launch date... I wish it were true; can't see it happening though, none of the games are finished so I guess November does look like the most probable timeframe that coupled with the fact that EA let slip in a recent press conference that their new Need For Speed: Carbon game would be shipping at the Wii's launch, November.

Here's hoping for a surprise September release, it happened before with the N64 so it's not entirely impossible..

Id say we could almost bank on that 3rd of November date, some are speculation the 2nd of October too going by already announced release dates for games, theres kinda a gap there, but I'd say save ya pennies for November 3rd! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Put a deposit down in Smyths today. Guy behind the desk said they didn't have a release date, November is just a best guess.

    (bought a DSLite too.. \o/ )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

    November I'd say ;)

How much of a deposit Goodshape ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

€25 deposit for the machine and one game on release day.

They're taking PS3 deposits too, for €50. I wonder which one is seeing more hits.
