Hey, i have just put a few portraits up on flickr and would be grateful to hear what people think. First real attempt at some portraits with polishing up in Photoshop. All comments welcome expecially regarding the level of post processing i.e is there too much...

    Thanks,

Hrmm. That technique really isn't my cup of tea at all, but it seems to be getting more popular these days. I can't really judge one way or the other, although I'm willing to bet I would have liked the originals :)

I would have liked to have seen more of the person (I know they are portraits) in some of those and where they are cropped at the chin level just looks a bit funny to me.

Thanks Antifuse, any in particular? Some have had more processing than others and some have had none. I should have really named them I suppose..

Hey Ruu, those arent really cropped too tight just had the zoom lens on and wasnt back far enough, you can tell from the full view on most of them. I do agree and would generally try to get the whole head in where possible but as they say fill the frame (or stand back far enough if using a long lens...)

Interesting effect you've applied. How did you manage to do it ? (If its not a trade secret ;) )

No trade secret, i would not even be 100% sure i could replicate any of them exactly. I need to start writing down everything i do in photoshop as i have a tendancy to flatten the layers when something looks good and then work a bit more from there. Mainly its just selective blurring to soften, levels, shadows/highlights and a bit of sharpening.
