Irish MMA on TV last night

I think this was mentioned before but there was a show on the beeb last night featuring Mark Leonard, Tim Murphy, Tom Haddock (in minor cameo roles to be fair!) and the MMA league. It was that annoying bloke Anderson but it was nice to see MMA protrayed in a good light. They showed fights (full rules and amateur, women's Thai too) without making any judgements bar the odd comment from the bloke himself.

There was a good interview early on with Tom Lamont too, and it followed a couple of his fighters, one of whom fought Tim Murphy at the end. (Tim won by sub)

All in all, given the fairly poor, sensationalist press MMA normally gets, I thought it came across fairly well!

Agreed, i was just flicking through the channels, when i said, "Hmmm, i know some of those faces", thought they spent a bit too long on the thai boxing girl, but yeah was great to see an Irish MMA show on tv... After seeing Underdogs, was wondering if those lads were still fighting

This was the second time the show was on and I've missed it both times!

I saw it too. Good show. Anderson seemed to have a hard time compreheding in his own head the apparent violence of MMA vs the pleasant demeanours and attitudes of the people he was talking to. I think that is pretty common in people who are new to the sport though. Still, I thought it was fair look at the sport. MMA always seems to come off the best in these sort of things when it's observed from a grassroots level.

You looked great Tim. The camera loves you:D They showed your submission and some of your fight but it was mostly abut your opponent.

Showed the end of Mark Leonard's fight too, as well as a few shots of him refereeing at the league.

T'was all good I tells ya!

    Hey man,
If you're in it you're probably entitled to a copy of it. Just call up the guys who own the tapes.

"Hi, I'm Tim and I was in your T.V. show, wing me a tape." :)

I was eh.. just it was em... I didn't have my... I was in the eh.... toilet.... at the time... and there was no.... toilet roll, yes thats it.... so I had to stay there until the end of the programme... and my phone was outside the door.... yeah... just out of reach... so eventually... I got some toilet roll.... somehow or other, its not important to the story, and I rushed to the phone but the programme was over. And thats it. All explained. Except for why the TV was in the toilet... give me a few minutes for that one.

Meant to post about this the last time it was on. I saw the whole show then and as already pointed out I was pleasantly surprised about how well they portrayed the sport, giving an intelligent and above all well researched account of MMA as a growing sport in Ireland. I can't remember whether it was BBC NI or UTV, but if you Tim, or anyone else wants to get a copy you should contact one of the above stations, find out whether it was produced by them or another independent production company (in the latter - get their contact details) and hound the production team behind it for a VHS or DVD copy.

Don't hold your breath though, I work in TV and companies and broadcasters can be either lazy about doing it (hence HOUND them) or in some cases try to charge you about 50 quid per copy!!! Send them a letter with the request saying how brilliant a job you thought they did and hopefully that'll get you a positve result! :)

Mick, you are not nearly good looking enough to be allowed on TV.

yes they had a 25min segment on 'The Slam Man - fact or fiction'

the evidence was inconclusive so its relegated to the realm of urban legend. a story told to unruly kids to keep them in line, 'behave, lest you feel the wrath of The Slam Man'

you are ireland's equivalent to Bigfoot

    ....too much sun...:D
