    Hi
    I had a problem about 8 weeks ago with my starter motor. it was coughing when starting, ie wasnt a contiious va va voom, but vo click va click voom. i got a starter motor second hand but never put it in as the motor sounded perfect the day i got the motor. so yesterday it came back, same problem. So is the problem with the starter motor? What else could it be? Funny thing is both times this has happened it has been about 1.5 weeks since i washed the engine. why would this affedct it a week later and not mor quickly so im really taking this out of the equation.
    Aby tips for replacing the motor. seems quite accessable.
    Had NCT retest this morning and nothing was said about it

    Could be a poor earth strap or battery !

    Start by removing and cleaning the battery terminal connectyions, same at the starter and find the engine earth strap and ensure its clean and tight !

    If it is a failure to turn over, followed by a few clicks, on each retry and then it starts immediately on turning, and/or if it depends on whether it is cold or warm, here is your solution I'd bet;

    If you simply take the end off the solenoid and clean it out it will work for a few weeks wile you are getting parts.
