    Hi guys,
Our file server is rebooting itself on a daily basis as a result of event id 6008.
See below for more specifics. I have tried finding a specific reason as to the cause of this but haven't found anything pointing to anything in particular.
Anyone else ever had anything like this? I'm thinking it might be hardware related.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: EventLog
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 6008
    Date: 7/16/2006
    Time: 6:51:48 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: XXXXXXXX
    Description:
The previous system shutdown at 6:48:13 PM on 7/16/2006 was unexpected.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Is it going through the full shutdown procedure, or just turning off.
If it's just turning off, it could be overheating possibly.

My computer does it sometimes in warm weather if i am running a Folding program or if the Processor is running at 100% for prolonged periods of time. The fan cant cool the processor enough because it is blowing warmer air. The motherboard is set to automatically turn off if it hits 52%
Otherwise, probably hardware, power supply difficultiies. have you got UPS?

Are you getting a bluescreen or just instant reboot?

Is it happening roughly around the same time each day?

Is it going through the full shutdown procedure, or just turning off? Brings me back to the logon window with the error message over it.

If it's just turning off, it could be overheating possibly - A suspicion I already had.

Have you got UPS? Yes, the whole comms room is UPS protected

Is it happening roughly around the same time each day? Between 6PM and 6:30PM almost every day.

There are a few options in the following.

    Have you applied service packs?

Seen that already, didn't see much in there that applied.

Its not shutting down as a result of event ID 6008, thats just a normal event log report of an unexpected shutdown.

    Post your event logs.

Just remembered, we had an issue with this and it was down to the shadow copies. When we turned that off the rebooting stopped.

Re Happens between 6/6.30pm every day, no scheduled tasks i.e. automatic updates or the like set to run prior to that, if left on auto update it will restart server after install.

    SYMPTOMS
When you restart the computer after a program that uses the InitiateSystemShutdownEx function shuts it down automatically, the following event may be logged to the System event log:

I'm not shutting the bad boy down, its shutting itself down as a result of a system failure.
I know why its shutting down, because the setting to automatically shut down in the event of a system failure is selected.
I need to find out what is causing the system failure.

Do the System or Application logs list any problems around the same time?

Nothing I can see but I'm going to remove anything it doesnt need in regards applications.

Im going to strip it down to the bare essentials and then start loading stuff back on, im nearly sure this is a software issue.
