I am shocked at the rte trailer with the amount of spoilers they had in it. I won't describe it as it would be spoiling in itself but I urge you, DO NOT WATCH THE RTE TRAILER.

I'm assuming it spoils the last epsiode yeah?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭Haven't a Clue

Yeah. Absolutely. The RTE retards couldn't make a damn proper trailer if their lives depended on it, which is an unlikely situation, but still...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,446 ✭✭✭bugler

It was a bit descriptive all right. Idiots :-)

I completely disagree. For once RTE have made a brillaint trailer for Lost instead of the generic ones for Scrubs/Father Ted/Lost to which they refer to "comedy night on RTE2" since when did Lost become a comedy?

The posters who have complained at the ad - have you already seen the episode? I haven't and the trailer/promo didn't spoil anything for me as there was a lot of fast cutting and after seeing it i cannot wait until next week.

The promo worked in one way - it wil ldefinately get people to watch as the trailer promises a lot of cliffhangers/conclusions/answers/action.

So what is so wrong with it?

RTE are notorious are spoiling future episodes of Lost - people either watch Lost or they don't, a trailer isnt going to make someone start watching it now, only ruin the surprise of next weeks episode.

I notice TV guides are getting in on the act, one actually told me who reappeared on the boat! I avoid articles on Lost as they tend to give surprises away including season 3 - I don't
    want to know!

I think the trailer gave too much away but I'm still dying to see it next week. I'd prefer to have not seen quite so many clips though.

Ok well great....now they have the trailer on the radio too!! It just came on a minute ago. I would have flown across the kitchen and turned it off only for the fact that I didn't want to look like a complete knob, or break my laptop, so instead I put my fingers in my ears and hummed.....
I think appearing crazy is a small price to pay for being able to watch the (second half of the) final relatively unspoilt...
Probably a radio ad wouldn't be as spoiler-filled as the TV one, but jeez nowhere's safe!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

At least RTe are advertising if it was tv 3 we would be gettin the same ad every week. And at least its not one interspersed with Scrubs and Fr. Ted.

BTW, can anyone upload it onto you tube.

I thought it was a good add without telling you anything really other then a few questions will be answered.

    From RTE:

    Dear ******,
Thank you for your e-mail, expressing concern at the amount detail given in the promo for part two of the final episode of 'Lost'.
I believe it is the policy of the RTÉ Promotions Unit never to intentionally divulge plotlines, while at the same time needing to ensure that our promos are as exciting and tempting as possible, and that this is in line with all broadcasters.
I regret if you feel that too much detail was given in this instance and I am forwarding your e-mail to Jim Booth, Head of RTÉ's TV Promotions Unit, for information and interest.

    With best regards
    Nina Ward
    RTÉ Information Officer

OOOH, Jim Booth's fairly bolluxed now...

it wasn't too bad, there were a few things they could have left out...

    major spoiler last episode!!!!!

    *spoiler removed*

    major spoiler last episode!!!!!

other than that, its not as bad as the usual thing they do. Also, have you seen the ads on C4? In the ad for Eko's episode, they showed the whole part where the black smoke monster is at Eko's face.

Can't believe I'm actually defending RTE :p but it wasn't that bad.

Modedit: Please don't post spoilers even in spoiler tags, the stickies reflect this. It's a bit ironic posting spoilers in a thread complaining about RTE showing spoilers

I just saw it there and it's grand really, apart from the MAJOR SPOILER tvnutz mentioned above, and even that's not too bad.

Don't worry kids, there's still plenty of surprises ahead.

Aye, they also showed the tail section stuff on ads before the series even started.

I always turn Lost off as soon as the credits start rolling. Tonight during Prison Break an ad came on for the last episode of Lost, turned it off straight away.

Yeah they def give too much away during the trailers, bugs me big time. Now I look away but still...

    DAMN MY EYES!!!!!!

I just read one of the spoilers.

Well I kinda knew it already - but didn't know who said it.

    Feck. Feck. Feckity. Feck.

A FFS, I muted the TV during the Prison Break ads last night, and was flicking through a magazine.
The wife calls me and when I look up I see:

A split second is all it took for the Ad to ruin it for me :(
    ARZE BISCUITS

Thought the ad gave a little bit too much away... but I don't think it's ruined the episode and it was a much better ad than the crap that some other stations show.
It's actually made me really look forward to next Monday night.

Been there! Isn't it amazing when you have your fingers in your ears and your eyes shut how quickly you forget there are
    other people in the room...

Avoid the RTE Guide that's on sale today, as well. Massive Lost article, including a full rundown of what happens in the last episode, including details of the final shots and lines of the series.

You almost don't need to watch the episode, it goes into so much detail.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 255 ✭✭AliasFan47

Your not serious. It is unbelievable that they would do that. People who may not have watched the series before will not feel the need to watch the series if the no whats going to happen. Is it really that bad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,041 ✭✭✭K_user

I have to say that I loved the ad! :D

I hate finding out whats instore for any show, or book that I’m watching/reading. It really annoys me when people tell me whats going on. But that ad was great, it had me jumping out of seat!! It made next weeks episode look exciting and while it did tell us bits and pieces, it didn’t give the context away. I doubt that the intention was to attract new viewers, but to remind everyone to watch the finale – it should get its highest ratings of the season.

They did the same the week before the first of the new series. They actually described the first scene in detail. Innocently I read the first paragraph before throwing the magazine away. Completely spoilt "the "hatch" surprise for me

I had the same feeling. I got me excited and left me anticipating next week. I honestly didn't get spoiled by the trailer there was no actual context to what we were seeing. The US promo for the finale was actually similar to RTE's if you watch it on youtube. I hope it is the most watched because anyone who I know who has seen it already say it is amazing.

BTW the most watched episode of lost for season 2 and even season 1 was "The Other 48 Days" with 482,000 viewers which is huge for RTE standards a US import.

I thought it gave too much away but I still liked it! Nothing to go mad on..I cant wait til part2!!!!!!

    aah it was fine.

the Fox 24 trailers "give away" just as much, but i still used to watch them everyweek, and all it would do was entice me further for the next episode

i've seen the final episode, and the ad doesnt give that much away
    *spoilers removed*

    lighten up guys..!
and enjoy it, the ad doesnt ruin it

Modedit: Please see other removed spoilers for reasoning

While it was hardly shock of the century, I personally could have done without the advert showing me explicitly that
Jack et al would be captured/forced to surrender, and that Sayid would be attempting to rescue them
, among other things you might infer.

And if you already watch the show, what do you want to be "excited" by the ads for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,513 ✭✭✭BrianD3

The trailer came on during an ad break during last night's film on RTE 2. thanks to this thread I knew to change channels straightaway.

PS any news on when the 3rd season will be starting on RTE

All i can say is that i'm glad i saw the episode before i saw the ad....

Are people now going to start complaining about the radio ad now?

Some people have a large sense of self-entitlement its just a piece of promotion for the show!!!!
