Really curious to know what primary and secondary teachers earn annually, how much they start on and what increases are like. I'm currently working in finance but really tempted to move. I just want to know what sort of pay i could expect.

"good look with finding a job though."

From your name I can't tell if you female or gay, but if you'f gay you will find it easier to get a job , as the teaching industry is in desperate need of male teachers.

edit : Just checked your profile and your not gay, sorry.

Most people would start off on the third point of the common basic scale which is €31,626 then there are allowances for your degree and H.Dip.. It takes about 25 years to get to the top of the pay scale.

It's quite difficult to get a full-time job though. At second-level, unless you're in one of the 'in demand' areas like Woodwork or Home Economics, you can do up to 5 years part-time or on contract before getting a chance at a permanent position.

They have now introduced CID - contracts of indefinite duration, so it's possible nobody will get a full-time job in the future.

no "trollish nonesense", my girlfriend teaches primary and it is hard to find a position in teaching at the moment and the positions that are avialable male teachers are getting priority as there is a serious lack of them in teaching at primary level.

If you really want to change careers then find out as much about teaching as you can. Males are encouraged to consider teaching as a career because there is such a shortage of males in that job.

If it's what you feel you want to do then go for it.
