The Deadly Ernest Horror Show : Did I just imagine it?

Does anyone here remember a guy on Sky Channel called "Deadly Ernest" (who dressed like Dracula iirc) and would present Horror movies on Friday nights (usually Hammer movies with Vincent Price, Peter Cushing etc). This would have been when Sky Channel was first in the Dublin area 1987-88 ish.

I'm sure it was real but unusually in these google days I can't find any real reference to it outside of some Finnish forums. Did it even exist? Perhaps someone else here remembers it/him and I just got the guys name wrong?

    Any info gratefully recieved.

Yeah, I remember it! It deffo existed. It was on Sky at about 10 on a Friday night. The films were absolutely ****e, but they scared the pants off me as a kid.

    Yep. I remember it also.

It was a similiar format to Elvira (or Booberella in the Simpsons) in the US.

He showed some classics, too bad he was annoying f*ckwit who would interupt the films.

Like he'd pop up in the corner of the screen during Plan 9 From Outer Space to let us know that the space ships looked like flying hubcaps... yeah... thanks for that.

I remember hounding my parents for weeks to let me watch it, they never would but I saw it around at a friends house one night and **** myself.

Actually.. now that I think of it I may actually have some of this recorded on an old tape somewhere at home.

It was a film called The Creeping Terror which was shown on his slot.

I remember that show. It showed films like Mark of the Devil, face from the A team gets a tattoo the wont stop growing. Scared the crap out of me when I was 7. Also some film about a crocodile living in the New York sewers, they were the best films to watch when your kid

Dear God, that takes me back! I was convinced no-one else remembered Deadly Ernest. I thought he was the coolest thing ever at the time and used to watch purely for his interstitial obiter dicta. I don't remember him interrupting the films, however. It's a shame TV is too po-faced to countenance a format like this nowadays. If anyone does have further details or footage of this show, I'd love to see it.

Another blast from the early days of Sky Channel (when it was a faintly laughable tinpot satellite channel rather than an all-powerful behemoth) - who remembers the short-lived but fondly recalled heavy metal show called Monsters of Rock, hosted by Mick Wall?

For some unknown reason that tv show popped into my head a few days ago, but after googling it, all I could find on it was this thread.

I know this thread is over 3 years old, but in case anyone is still interested, I later stumbled across a small clip of the show -

I remember it well. Would love to get a list of the movies they showed, as they scared the $hit out of me. Though I was only 8 at the time, so I'm not sure they'd have the same impact today!

I remember the name alright. And vaguely remember bits like him interrupting films. There are 2 versions on youtube

My God! I have on occasion scoured the internet for information on the Dealy Ernest Horror Show, but the results have been scant (I love horror movies). :D Search results are polluted by a similarly-named show in Australia, which seems to have been a lot more popular.

What I found out was that Deadly Ernest was played by a fellow called Jim Bywater: http://www.jimbywater.com/2006/02/who-what-where-i-am.php

His girlfriend was called Scarlett Aorta aka Jilly Johnson, as far as I know.

Some of the movies that were shown were:

    Creepshow

Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell

Several episodes from "Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense": Black Carrion I remember in particular.

Oh yes! I remember. My GF designed a wedding dress for Scarlet and they showed a picture of us during one of the shows. Unfortunately there weren't enough viewers to keep the show alive. I would give an arm and a leg for a tape of that particular episode!
