David Walliams of Little Britain fame has been backed into 3rd favourite with William Hill for Sports Personality of the Year.
Bookmakers William Hill have seen a nationwide gamble on David Walliams of 'Little Britain' fame to win the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award and have cut his price three times in the last 48 hours from 50/1 to 14/1.

"David Walliams did a fantastic job swimming the Channel in such a quick time but in any other year he would probably not even be considered for the award," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

"But the failure of the England World Cup team has left the award wide open and judging by the cash coming in I am sure we will see an internet campaign to get people to vote for him.

"If he won tomorrow we would be paying out just over £50,000," added Adams.

Colin Montgomerie is the 4/1 favourite with Hills, who price Steven Gerrard at 9/2 and Andy Murray at 8/1.

Personally I think swimming the Channel is a greater achievement than never winning a golf major, having a terrible World Cup and being the next hyped up Brit at Wimbledon so it wouldn't be that strange if Walliams did win
