Yeah it may sound a really stupid question, but when is the next Dublin match?

From the gaa website Master Fixture List http://www.gaa.ie/page/august.html

As of now it is on Aug 12th (Saturday) v winner of Galway\Westmeath.
It is scheduled for the same day as Mayo v winner of Laois\Offaly

However I think this may be changed, if I recall last year they changed Dublin's Quater Final (v Tyrone) from a double header to a single game, they may do the same this year.
Can anyone remember what they did with the other game that was scheduled with Dublin v Tyrone last year, it would have been Armagh v Qualifier

I think (but i may be wrong) the Armagh match was changed to the week after and the Dublin Tyrone match went off on the day it was set. Im not 100% sure tho.

Yea I just had a look back to last year and that is exactly what hppened, not sure if they can do that this year however with the All Ireland being a week early due to the Ryder Cup

The Dublin-Tyrone replay was played the following Saturday.I remember as I watched the first match in Greece alongside Tyrone fans and returned home Friday night and went to the replay match the next day.The Armagh-Laois match was on the day after the Dublin-Tyrone #1.I remember we were drinking with Armagh fans in Greece watching that match.Armagh fans are a good laugh, never afraid to buy you a pint.

They could change the day to the 12th or change the stadium for the other game. Im not sure if they would do that tho.

Yes, the Mayo QF and the Dublin QF are both scheduled for Saturday August 12, but the GAA said they are going to look at it.

    The options are as follows:

    1. Double bill in Croker on Sat 12th
    - that would mean the GAA throwing money away, so wouldnt make sense

    2. Play Mayo game in other venue
    - Mayo and their opponents would strongly object, so unlikely

    3. Move one of the games to bank holiday Monday August 7
    - The qualifier winners would then only have 8 days to prepare for this QF.

    4. Move one of the games to Saturday Aug 19
    - The winners would have only week to prepare for the semi-final, and they're be a huge problem if the QF ended in a draw.

    5. Keep them both in Croker on Sat Aug 12, but as two totally separate matches, say 1pm and 6pm throw-in times, so two different crowds.
    - Would be a logistical nightmare, I'd imagine, so only a last resort.

    6. Play the Mayo QF on Sunday Aug 13, as a double bill with the All Ireland hurling semi involving Kilkenny
    - Depends on who exactly is playing, but unlikely I'd say.

I'd guess option 3 will be the one.

There was an article about it in today’s Irish Times (no link cos the Times is subscription). Did not offer anything new just said that the GAC are looking into it.

As stated option 3 seems the most realistic, but which game would be brought forward the Dublin QF or the Mayo one?

I’d imagine it would be the Mayo one cos we don’t what to disrupt the Dubs calendar now do we.
And if it is the Mayo one and Loais are their opponents then I can see Miko having something to say about having to play on two consecutive weeks, if I recall he was none too happy about having to play two tough qualifiers (Tyrone and Meath) on consecutive Saturdays (or am I thinking of Paul Beelan whinging about the Mattie Ford incident again)

If option 2 (played the game on the 12th away from Croke Park) which neutral venue would best suite Mayo v Laois\Offaly ?

Playing on two consecutive weeks is no problem when you're winning. No matter which game is moved to the Monday, there has to be one team inconvenienced by playing games on consecutive weekends.

While being moved to the Monday might disrupt the plans of Mayo or Dublin, I would guess both Mayo and Dublin management teams wouldnt mind that much, as 4 weeks between games is a long time - 3 would be preferable unless an important player was carrying an injury.

Personally I'd much prefer my team to play on a Saturday rather than a Bank Holiday Monday. My guess is they'll move the Dubs to Monday with a 2pm throw-in, and have Mayo on the Saturday at 5 or 6pm.

Well if they do change, the throw in times will most likely be 3.30pm.
Playing a game with a western\southern team involved at 5 or 6 in Dublin would not be greeted favorably by western\southern supporters, what with traveling back home the same day, train times etc (the last train to Galway or Mayo on a Saturday is 6 ish)

In 2002 they played all 4 quarter finals on the Bank Holiday.
Sligo v Armagh and Kerry v Galway on the Sunday.
Mayo v Cork and Dublin v Donegal on the Monday.

If it came to this, I'd say Dr Hyde Park would be the logical choice.

Someone said Mayo would complain if they didn't take on Laois/Offaly in Croke Park .... I think they'd far rather play in Roscommon.

train times etc (the last train to Galway or Mayo on a Saturday is 6 ish)

I wouldn't add that as a factor in any decission, they will lay on specials if needs be.

It would have a huge bearing on the decision.
The GAA do not want or need a situation where
    1. They have a ¼ filled Croke Park because the throw in time is at a time that does not suit the vast majority of traveling support, and anything after 4pm realistically would not suit western\southern support
    2. They will get huge negative from all corners, managers, fans, media etc for scheduling an important game that will result in 1. (above)

My comment was purely based on availability of trains, nothing else (i.e throw in time).

Why not Laois/Offaly V Mayo in Thurles??? 55,000 capacity.

Well it would be a first, I don't think Mayo have ever played football in Thurles

Bit far away for the Mayo crowd really, Ballina/Castlebar - Thurles = 143/130 miles
    Portloais/Birr - Thurles = 38/32 miles

If Offally win then Salthill might be a good bet, a good ground that is crying out for a few games, and not far from both counties

    Ballina/Castlebar - Salthill = 76/55 miles
    Birr - Salthill = 59 miles

    Ticket worries ease for Dubs

Dublin's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final against Galway or Westmeath will take place in Croke Park on Saturday, August 12.

The Nicky Rackard Cup final will be the curtain-raiser with the Mayo v Laois or Offaly SFC quarter-final moving to Sunday, August 13 also in Croke Park as the curtain-raiser to the Clare v Kilkenny All-Ireland SHC semi-final.

I think everyone and their aunt knew the GAC were making the decision today.

For those who don't source their tickets from clubs, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael are taking bookings for the Canal upper and lower from their Croke Park office now, ring and ask for the ticket office. The rest of the stadium will be going to the clubs, also take note that Galway/Westmeath will be getting a bigger allocation than Offaly took, so in effect there may be more demand for 'Dublin' tickets.

Well it's the Dublin County Board's offical website, so unless somebody managed to hack it, then yes it's true.

Thanks, I was not aware that it was the County Board website, only had a look at the page in the post, though it might have been another Hogan Stand or other unoffical website

Anyway it's the Mayo game I was interested in rather than the Dublin game

The county boards have all been informed. The GAA are holding off on a official statement until later today, just in case someone has a strong and legitimate grievance to the proposal.

Dublin's game is due to throw-in at 4pm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,000 ✭✭✭The Rooster

The throw-in time for the Dublin game will be brought forward from 4pm.

The Gardai have requested 2pm, but 2.30pm and 3pm are also options. The CGAC are expected to confirm it by the end of the week.

    Dublin v Westmeath
    03 August 2006

The GAA have confirmed that the Bank of Ireland All Ireland Football Championship Quarter Final between Dublin and Westmeath on August 12th will have a 4pm throw-in.

It will be preceded by the Nicky Rackard Cup final between Donegal and Derry which will get underway at 2pm

I doubt the Gardai are too happy with that decision.
Hopefully people won't go as mad boozin beforehand as they've all Saturday night to enjoy.
Should expect a lot more stewards in operation this time alongside the Gardai I'd bet.

    Dubs eye up rivals tickets
    03 August 2006

Hundreds of Dublin fans are expected to travel to Westmeath this week in search of tickets for Saturday week’s glamour All-Ireland football quarter-final.

Dublin’s allocation of 50,000 tickets is expected to be snapped up by clubs and Parnell Park ticket holders, while only a limited number will go on sale through Ticketmaster outlets.

Westmeath are expected to receive an allocation of about 20,000 and county board chiefs are understandably keen to look after their own supporters first. But with many Dubliners now living in Westmeath, it’s inevitable that some Dublin followers will be able to get their hands on tickets earmarked for Lake County fans.

Westmeath are also anxious not to broadcast when and where they are selling their tickets from, although details of this appear in the local press.

“We might have to start asking people to show us their utility bills to prove they are living in Westmeath,” one county board official joked.

Dublin chairman Gerry Harrington said: “We’d hope to get in the region of 50,000 and we’ll take as many as we can.”

There's no tickets on Ticketmaster at the moment but more tickets may be available later in the week if clubs return some of their allocation (I'd doubt it though).

Any tickets which come back from the clubs won't go back on Ticketmaster.

Returned tickets go on sale on the Thursday before a match from the Croke Park ticket office.

Bear in mind though that their won't be any returned tickets, as above.

No it hasn't changed. It was only announced once (3rd August) and that once was for a 16:00 throw in.

All the media reporting of an early kick off was purely speculation based on Garda requests.

anyone know if it is true that dublin are only to be allocated 20,000 tickets for the semi-final? how the **** am i supposed to get tickets now????

it's been reasonably easy so far and I guess it is a good complaint to have, but it's a pain to trek to all the early games and the further they go the harder it is to get the tickets. anyone any ideas?

Looks like it's going to be nigh impossible to get tickets for this, especially with it being a triple header:

Dublin fans are set for the mother and father of ticket scrambles ahead of the All-Ireland SFC semi-final in Croke Park on August 27.

The Dublin County Board's allocation will be 20,000 which means that clubs allocation will be dramatically cut from what they received for the quarter-final and Leinster semi-final and quarter-final. Also there will be NO public sale of tickets from Parnell Park or Croke Park.
Dublin have had over 60,000 fans at each of their last three games - the attendances at those games were 79,190 (v Westmeath, All-Ireland quarter-final), 67,970 v (Offaly, Leinster final), 81,754 (v Laois, Leinster semi-final).
