I have a czech friend coming over to hopefully live. She does not speak much english and needs to learn before getting job. Can she go straight to social welfare and apply for a claim? Ive read loads of web pages on this but cannot seem to get a straight answer?

She can claim, see Para F on this http://www.welfare.ie/foi/swa_habres.html
She must be treated the same as other EEA workers. Used not be the case, a HRC condition used to have to be filled up and send away. During this time (up to 3 months) the person could SWA (Sup Welfare Allowance) from the health board. But this doesnt apply to ur friend

    Hi Snaps

I know that an Irish person can claim the dole in another country in the EU (only certain states though) if she's been on the dole for a month in Ireland, and can do so for up to 3 months in the foreign country, while looking for work within the EU. It's the same amount that you'd get in Ireland and although you'd get paid by Social Welfare in that country, Ireland would get the bill for it as such.
So it's probably the same for a Czech:confused: She should probably ask at her local social welfare office in the Czech Republic.
I got my info from Fàs, so they'd probably be able to advise you further if you want any more info (ask to speak to the Eures officer)

    best of luck!
