Hi all, heading to New York at the end of August and was hoping somebody could recommend reasonably priced and well located accommodation around Manhatten preferably. Its for six nights and either a hotel or apartment would be ideal.

Also can you recommend areas to visit at night, pubs, restuarants etc..

    Cheers, Les

P.S. Got my passport in 1998, do I need to get a new one for US imigration?

Passports issued on or after October 26, 2005, by Visa Waiver Program countries must include a digital photo, or the traveler will be required to get a visa. I think yours is fine then, you will just be photographed and fingerprinted going through customs and border protection. Good luck. :)

Does it have P<IRLYOURLASTNAME<<YOURFIRSTNAME<<<< at the bottom of the photo page? If so you'll be fine.

Are you booking it through Urbanstay.com? I stayed in an apartment in upper east side over new years last. Top class apartment in fairness, couldnt have asked for more.

Try the Comfort Inn, Manhattan. It's on West 35th street, very central. Stayed there in January and walked everywhere. Round the corner from 5th Avenue, Macy's and the Empire State building.

Rooms are basic but clean. Would definitely stay there again if I was lucky enough to go back!

Hi All, anyone ever stay here:

    http://www.exchangehotel.com/

    (Formerly Manhatten Seaport Suites)

    Located just off Wall St.

    What's the location like?

    Cheers,

    Les

Looks like a nice place. Location is fine, a couple of minutes walk to Battery Park and Ground Zero, but it's a bit of a hike to the main shopping areas and Central Park. However that's what the taxis are for! $7 - $10 should see you to Times Square, or use the public transport which is great.

From there you're not far at all from The Village, Canal St., Chinatown, the Bowery and Brooklyn Bridge. There are some good bars and restaurants (somewhat touristy though) at the South Street Seaport (Pier 19, I think?).
