Gas at treatment?

    Hi There

I need to get alot of dental work done. I lived in UK and Dentist always gave me gas - worked a treat as I am a nervous wreck.

Does anyone know of a dentist (in Cork preferably but I will travel if needs be!) that will give gas before treatment otherwise I have to suffer on as I can bear it otherwise!

    Thanks

Interesting question....I personally know of no dentists that use nitrous oxide for adults....know plenty that use it for kids but not adults....I personally think the n20 is great an would consider it for adults however at the moment I am not in private practice so cannot help. Look around the yellow pages and the interweb maybe it will throw up somehting

    good luck

    Thanks fitzgeme!

I have searched to high heaven - at this stage, I'm thinking of making a trip back to UK as it might be easier!

and cheaper! im not particularly nervous but id rather not have to listen to some gob****e with shaky hands mining precious metals out of my skull, as far as i know high street practices in ireland no longer offer gas. if however you go to your local health board and explain the situation they'll be more than willing to help, my brother had it done with gas in drogheda about 4 years ago.

I doubt it. The healthboards are WAY overstretched as it is... Kids are now waiting months for General Anaesthetic referrals in several areas (Including Eastern area, where you are. They're having to send kids from Meath to Erne hospital in Enniskillen they're so stuck for theatre time.

Most dentists would prefer rude patients under gas too I'm sure. :p

i also think nitrous is a great idea for adults, if you do find someone to do it make sure you dont drive home or operate any kind of machinery.
tbh modern dentistry isnt too bad under local imho.
