Just have been messing around with this plugin for the dreambox and have to say it works really well. Once you configure VLC to run in its HTTP mode (basic web IF page) and configure the plugin and the directory holding your video files it runs away perfectly. I have tested streaming AVI (various divx/xvid coded) ASF, WMV, MPEG1+2 files.

All work great and no sign of sync issues yet. Sometimes it will crash but I am wondering if it is an issue with my current image and the plugin.

Very handy solution for those looking to watch avi in a different room to the pc and own a dreambox.

I've run VLC between a P2400 capturing analog RTE1 on a TV Tuner card and a Laptop via WiFi and it crashes sometimes (704 x 576 @25i). I'd say the VLC is not entirely stable. Image better feeding a real 25i screen than on the non-interlaced 60p CRT Monitor or LCD screen. There does seem to be a few differences between the Linux and Xp versions though.

Is it possible to use VLC to stream from the dreambox over the internet? I can use it over wireless LAN in and around the house via enigma and dreamview program but would like to know if it's possible to use it in the way slingbox is described.
It would be great to access from work or when travelling.

Done something similar with an Athlon 2000+, capturing analog (720x576) with "de-interlacing on the fly" (x mode), write o/p to file, then use WizD (on same PC) to share it to a DVX-500E. VLC is rock solid so far.

Writing to a file means I can skip forwards/backwards, pause, stop = cheap HD-PVR.
(That's HD as in hard disk, not high def).
