Anyone used Trex decking?

Has anyone used the composite, supposedly low maintenance decking Trex www.trex.com? I'm interested in putting it at the back of my garden and would like to know what it looks like down and where it can be bought in Dublin. Thanks.

I haven't used it, but there is a company in Mullingar that produces composite timber decking www.earth-wood.com I would expect that they would be cheaper than the imported Trex, but then again this is Ireland....

Thanks, sounds like its a more expensive option than wood.

Came across some guys installing the Earthwood decking the other day and quizzed them up. €30 a length! So about 3 times the price of pressure treated softwood. Very impressive anti-slip properties though, ideal for commercial installations where you would be worried about claims! Or if you are using the deck for access to the house all year round.

Do-more, what did it look like - is it comparable to wood or does it look fake? Is Earthwood a similar type product to Trex? Thanks.

From 20ft away I thought it was red ceder they were installing. Upclose there were light colour flecs through it which I didn't personally like. I have not seen the trex installed so can't compare. If I get a chance I will post some pix, but that probably won't be for a few days...

Thanks, it'd be really great if you could post pics. I've only seen a tiny sample of it - not enough to make a decision on.

I couldn't get a photo of the deck as the owners have returned from holiday!

I did however get my hands on an offcut and here is the photo.

So did you get the Trex decking then? I'm just looking for some feedback. Seems like a good product. And they seem like a good company to invest in, considering we need to do something with all this plastic that we need to recycle and produce something worthwhile out of.

Jesus Christ, you resurrected a 12 year old thread. OP hasn't posted in 9 years. Something tells me you're not going to get an answer.

Well, i was full of doubt as to whether it was a good idea to ask a question.... But i overcame that doubt (as strong as that force was) and i thought "what have i got to lose?"...
