Strange letter from CN

Got my renewal notice from CN. It's a shameful 693 quid for a 23 year old 250cc four stroke bike and 1 years NCB. I'm 27, from Dublin and passed the test a month ago.

    Anyway, on the back it has the following;
    Dear Policyholder,
Today we have provided you with a notice of renewal for your insurance policy with your existing underwriter. We have examined your details and are confident that we can provide you with a more competitively priced quotation by placing you with a different underwriter.

The alternative policy varies in its terms ad conditions from your existing policy and due to these changes we have not automatially offered you the lower quotation.

Please contact our renewals department to discuss the alternative quotation to establish if it is more suitable for you.
I'm guessing this is a classic policy they are on about.

Maybe, maybe not. I got a quote off them a month ago and their cheapest 3rd party quote had a stipulation about not carrying pillion passengers (though I have a full licence). It was 100 cheaper than AON but I wanted fully comp, for which AON were 500 cheaper!

So shop around (as much as you can in this country).

CN have another underwriter (can't remember who) that will give you a lower quote but no step back in loss of NCB if you claim. Got that from CN the other day on asking for quote.

Yep. They have a second underwriter who will insure classic, and who only insure over 25's. Afaik, they do have to ask your permission before moving your policy to a different underwriter.

It was classic. Just rang them. €390 for TPFT instead of €691 for TPO! The one and only question I was asked: "Can you garage that bike?". That's why they don't do it automatically I reckon-someone in an apartment etc. will not be able to avail of the classic policy.

I then asked about adding newer bikes and he said "so long as it's over 15 and not like a 'fireblade' there should be no problems". Thankfully I'm not ino sports bikes so I took the offer up of course. I think this policy will also allow me to ride other people's bikes, which my current policy does not.

Happy days, there's a nice 1990 FJ1200 for sale in Dublin atm, might take a look now :D

As far as I know. Classic insurance wont let you drive "any other bike". I think as the man said, it has to be 15 years. But also named on your policy. Which I beleave there is a charge of 50euro for. (not to sure on that. You'd best ask them)

Mate of mine has a CN classic policy and his allows him to ride other people's bikes. Not sure if they have to be 15 but they don't have to be noted on his policy so long as they are insured by someone else it's fine.

Maybe so, if it's TPO, but I dunno if they do TPO on classics.
I have a modern bike now, but last year I renewed with CN on a classic TPFT policy and it covered riding any bike I didn't own (third party only naturally)

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

FYI CNs other underwriter insures any type of bike not just classic

Well, it does allow me to ride "other bikes" according to the proposal form I got in the post today. It is also with RSA, as was my original non-classic policy. It's obviously TPO on the other bikes, like any car policy would be. The classic policy is TPFT.

Ok classsic insurance sounds great, I'm 23, full A1, 3ys NCB, reckon they'd give me classsic cover on a 125? Can you just have a classic bike and that's it?

A mate of mine pays €390 for CN classic insurance and he lives outside Dublin, with 3 bikes insured. They are charging me the same. Is the price for classic cover fixed at €390 or what? Anyone else have this policy?
