The smallest hard drive nowadays to buy would be about 40gbs in most shops, unless you want something second hand. Give us the model of the gateway and we should be able to find out whats the max amount of ram (and type) that will work with your computer.

Don't bother with a screen. VNC. And use 2 monitors on your regular PC.

to check if the ram works, put it in and see if it works

A flat panel is worth more than the PC no matter what you put in it... is there anything in particular you want to do with it?

Go to www.crucial.com and put in model of the pc and it will tell you about the ram specs etc. You can compare to the Dell you took the other ram out of and see if its the same.

If you are to use VNC use UltraVNC Software as RealVNC is a pain in the neck as it does not support the € symbol. This will end up bugging the heck out of you as did me and my neighbour who I was trying to fix it for. There is no fix so I shall have to uninstall the RealVNC software and install UltraVNC instead sometime soon.

    UltraVNC FTW

If its the wrong type of ram and you somehow get it to fit into your motherboard then pop goes your moterboard !!

Use evervesf or PC wizzad and find out the specs of the computer. Use crucial or corsair or someone like shop4memory to get a compatible type then. For cheap HDD's check adverts.ie ! Mite pick up a cheapy on nowafflepcs or somewhere like that

Never tried UltraVNC myself, but I've used TightVNC a good few times without any problems - it can also do JPEG compression to minimise bandwidth (can be handy if you ever need to use it over the interweb).
