got saved on your computer. I am just wondering how many files and folders you've got saved! I just did a search and I was told I have 135720 files and folders saved on the computer. Is this really high or what, or is it the norm:confused:

To do a search go to -> Start -> Sreach -> All files and folders.

Actually it'd be interesting to see the number of files after a fresh install of windows home/pro, various linux distos etc. I dont know why though, bored I guess :D

Is this a new way to measure your internet penis size?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,998 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

No, because mine are all source files for various things, so it just makes me a big nerd.

Having more file is probably a bad thing anyway. It's just one of those curiosity threads, not a bragging rights thread.

Have 2 hard drives and about 4 partitions.

I crashed my system trying to find out but I think it's in the hundreds of thousands.

Only 65,972 across 600 Gigs, I regularly clean out my system, so it doesn't get full of junk.

(Thanks to the cornflake for that command. Didn't think wc would take piped input. That's my new thing for today.)

Seems mine is in the high end. I'm (somewhat) surprised.

    297,578 files, on a 500GB RAID

I've had drives actually die on me before because the MFT has gotten so fragmented due to the sheer bulk of files on my drive, which is why I always increasethe size of it when I do a fresh install, I think XP only makes allowance for 50,000 files, after that the MFT starts getting fragmented. But its probably due to MATLAB, AutoCAD, Visual Studio, Photoshop Suite and the 20+ games I have installed.

As a side, when you are clearing out redundany files off your drive, what folders and files are ok to delete. I know about the $NTUninstall files in the WINDOWS dir, is it ok to delete all of them?

aye, most of the bulk is 350mb tv shows or 1.4gig movies.
all legal, non copyrighted and free to download of course.
