Final table 10k gtd. 4 players left.
    me--sb--45000
    player b--bb--15000
    player c--c/o--8000
    player d--button--250,000

    Blinds-1500--3000
C/o folds, button limps,I make up the blind with Q-10o, bb goes all in for 15000. Button calls,I call as well to try and take the player out as theres quite a step up in the money.Flop comes 10d-8d-3c.BB leads out for 20,000:eek: wtf is my move?

How did the BB lead out on the flop if he'd gone all-in pre-flop?

few things to take into account.

Normally a player won't bet with a player all in unless he has the goods.
Player C only has 8000 left, so you could be looking at second place.

If you go all in and lose you will prob get third as you had more chips than BB at start of hand.

All things considered I would fold this.

I would put button on an overpair.

Call the TD over and ask for a ruling: BB bets with no chips??? :)

It's a very marginal call preflop, especially with your 15BB stack size. I dont think I'd do it, but if you think the hand will be checked down all the way then maybe it's ok. But probably not. And I fold now, hoping that whoever is doing the betting has enough to take the other player out, and isn't stupid enough to bet here with a bare flush draw.

My mistake,it was the chip leader obviously who bet the 20k.Well I did fold, chip leader showed J-10 and took down the pot.I was very close to pushing all in over his bet,but like yourselves,I put him on A-10 or K-10.Just wondering if I should have taken the oppertunity to possibly double up(nearly treble up).If I had called ive had got to over 100k and it would have been game on.Thinking about it(not results orientated)I think pushing was the right option as winning the pot gives me a real chance of winning the tourney , (and at worst finishing 3rd) while folding gave me no chance to win the tourney.
    comments please

I would lead that flop since it seems you are first to speak, you have 30k behind and 45k in the pot so folding top pair is terrible here. It is very unlikely he can have an overpair although whatever hand the button has he is probably a moron.

edit: if there really is "quite a step up in the money" where top 3 get about the same and 4th gets not much, you have to try and outlast the other short stack. But in a normal tournament you have to get all in somehow.

Question to RT: Do you call this preflop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

I can almost categorically say he would not have called preflop, RT would be more likely to re-raise all in than call off a large percentage of his stack and fold top pair.

Do I take it Cardshark that your not in favour of team play in this position to take a player out?Maybe im giving team-play in these positions too much thought.

I think the payout structure should have a huge influence on your decision. Whats the difference between 3 2 and 1st? If 1st is alot more than 2 and 3 but 2 and 3 are close in money you are going to be more inclined to get it all in now, but if there is a big jump between 3 and 2 a fold might be better.

    €3,200--1st,€2,100--2nd, €1,380--3rd, €800--4th

For me I would be inclined to fold and fight for 2nd. With that payout. The difference between 3rd and 2nd is only about 200 off the difference between 2nd and 1st. But thats just me.
