I was just wondering.. how many people listen to Regional Hospital Radio 107.2fm (I would think that it gets a few votes because its commerical free), or how about RLO?
Do ye ever tune into Galtee or wired?

I am especially interested in Regional Hospital Radio.

Please keep this in the Limerick forum, it would be lost in radio! Thanks Billy

i dont listen to any irish radio. its too restricted with what music they play and there is no off the cuff interaction with the audience.and whats with 2fm making each shift 2 hours? thats nothing really when you think about how many ad's they have to play and news also. and they also love cutting off the ends of songs too.fabulous *not*
on the odd chance i listen it would be to english radio stations (Xfm or BBC1(only specific shows on BBC really though..). stations here are a pathetic excuse for radio really!

When I do listen to the radio I listen to 2FM or TodayFM because I find them the best from the rest which is sad really. Even though these two stations are Dublin orientated I still find them better than the local rubish.

I cannot stand 95FM as it has too many commercials, the same limited number of songs played over and over again or stupid djs who talk too much. Have never listened to Galtee or RLO to be honest.

Mostly though I listen to my cds rather than radio.

I always listen to Radio One and only listen to Limerick stations if there is a death.

i thought you could get the hospital radio in the hospital or just outside it?

anyway its mostly today fm for me especially the blast with ray foley

TodayFM is the only way - Ian Dempsey/Ray Darcy/Gift Grub/Donal Dineen/Tom Dunne...all good. Love Matt Dempsey for the Last Word

Listening to 2FM is not an option. Woeful muck from a "national" broadcaster. Old Boys club more loike

Wouldn't listen to 95fm EVER again. Worst radio station I have ever heard. Cheesy rubbish, way too commercial and the music is woeful.

The other limerick stations don't really even count.
Can't wait for Newstalk106 to go national.

Same for me. TodayFM all the time. No way will I listen 2fm or 95FM.

Only Today FM, or RTE 1 for the news etc. I don't mind 95fm, except for the deaths, I find those incredibly depressing and pretty weird.

Alice Cooper was presenting a show on Today FM last night. Does anyone know if this is gonna be a regular feature?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

Does he talk about stuff in relation to Ireland, or is a syndicated show that's played on stations in the US and Today FM decided to pick it up?

I never turn the radio on myself to specifically listen to a channel
it but the girlfriend will have 95 FM on while either putting on her makeup or
cleaning the house. She only listens to it for the news and those
guess the year and guess the peoples voices stuff but like myself
would not be listening to it for the Music.

From the bits and pieces I have heard from the different channles
they tend to cater for Mainstream and chart music only. I have not
heard of any alternative types of music being played unless it was
a song that once upon a time did enter the mainstream charts.

Years ago there was a Metal show......now I DONT like metal music
in general but at least it was an effort to play something different.

Would love to listen to a station that even played an hour a week from other
music genre's there is so much out there that has nothing to do with
Golden Oldies or the top 40 or top 100 charts.

Ya thats the reason I listen to Today FM because they do cater for something a bit different. Donal Dineen show is excellent for new rarely heard music and Tom Dunne can play some excellent stuff. Even Ray Darcy plays some good tracks. Although he does play a lot of Irish singer songwriters which do me head in.
2FM don't really do that as much. Gerry Ryan, Marty Whelan,Larry Gogan etc. Heard Marty this morning and turned him off straight away.
I would say 95FM don't recognise that a large portion of people living in Limerick have no interest in the ****e they play. A lot of people do listen to stuff that isn't in the charts.Reaslistically the charts haven't been relevant for years! They have the local thing going on though which is the main reason people listen in.(deaths/news/etc..)

I'm amazed that I'm the first person here to mention Lyric FM. Its got an amazing range of music you won't hear anywhere else (its not just classical, I was listening last night and they played a Nine Inch Nails track remixed by Aphex Twin!) Plus its based in Limerick too.

Cool, never realised they play stuff like that! Must check them out.

RTE 1 and 2 don't really cater for local people, mostly Dublin listeners Same goes for today FM.

Live 95 fm is too damn loud. the audio is compressed to death.

RLO goes overkill on advertisements sometimes.

I find it harder and harder to listen to any irish stations these days.

Yeah, i must say it was a surprise. The sunday evening show is called Nova and they play some pretty radical stuff. Then theres a lot of Bach and stuff for the rest of the week :)

Nothing really worth talking about in Ireland really. Today FM is about the best of a bad lot. I rarely 'listen' to radio. Its more about having background noise in the car.

If its music you want to listen to, your better off bringing your Ipod along or burning compilation cd's, because you wont hear anything appealing, unless your part of the chart niche.

You forgot to put west Limerick 102 fm on the survey??

I NEVER listen to live 95fm cos they seem to be stuck in a horrific 80's time warp. I listen to west Limerick cos its hillarious and they sometimes have intresting interviews. I used to listen to kiss all the time when I was in school.

Limerick 102, Galtee, etc... would go down as 'other local'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,176 ✭✭✭1huge1

ive never heard of limerick 102 or galtee

and i can see the galtee's clearly from my house so it cant be being broadcasted around here

are they city stations or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,883 ✭✭✭Poxyshamrock

yeah they're pure s**t though. galtee plays all trad and crap, daniel o donnell and showband stuff. no offence but thats not my my type of music. West Limk 102 then is i suppose like rlo, old stuff with chat shows and other stuff. they have a west limk 102 car going around the city sumtimes i often see it on my way to school! You cant beat the shadow crew though! LEGENDS!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭BobTheBeat

Raydiooo Galteeee! *What a great jingle*. But did anyone notice the amount of ads on the station? Its unreal!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,583 ✭✭✭limerick_man

Radio Galtee (to my knowledge isnt a city station), but is local.

West Limerick 102fm is a community radio station broadcasting from three purpose built studios in Newcastle West, Abbefeale and somewhere else, it recently opened and is basically the live 95fm for county Limerick (but is directed more towards a county RLO type audience)

Wired is also 'other local' it is run by students in the city and is popular among rock/metal fans but does mix with various DJ's.

I listen to RLO regularly especially to Tony Browe and Tom Ryan, their show is Pure comedy, and it tries its hardest not to be! sometimes the callers are the same old geriatrics, but you get some crackers, and sometimes it's quite interesting if they get a guest in.

The History show on a sunday night is about the only one of it's kind in the country as far as i know. again, sometimes the topic isnt too interesting, the guest could just be talking about a particular area that you know nothing about, or a very specialist subject but he does get quite good guests on alot, an dthere's nothing scripted or rehearsed. i was on it one night myself :o

the 95 fm is nothing but a steaming pile of something or other, not worth 5 minsutes listen, except for the live munster matches, but even then it's tough going, with len dineen.

    oh not len

"go down to clohessys bar for your sunday roast blah blah blah"

not to mention, just s one team is about to score or someone get sent off,
"and thanks to mary and john for the sandwiches, hello to jim an dita on their 60th wedding anniversary" "oh it's a try, is it, is it a try, no wait a lineout, no a scrum, no play on!"
