    Hi

I have irish broadband breeze 1mb now on there website I know it says that you can REACH speed's of 1MB but is it normal that my download speed is only 153kbps? Should I ring them?

I done a few tests since then its now about 330 but that still seems prity slow?

    153Kbps = 1.2Mbps

If you ring them they might slow you down!

You have to remember, download speed is measured in BYTES, connection speed is measured in BITS. 8 bits to a byte. 153 * 8 = 1224Kbps.

Your one of the lucky ones getting decent speed! Was using breeze in my brothers place yesterday, downloading at 2Kbps! I use clearwire, and when I download any torrents, the speed is terrible, but I generally do get around 20 - 25Kbps.

    No, 150KBps = 1.2Mbps

KB is no the same as Kb.

It's unlikely that he'd be getting 330KB/s on a 1Mb/s connection, so when he said 153kb/s, he probably meant bits, not bytes.

Are you taking the piss! Im one of the lucky one's?

Is that a good download speed?

    Its KBPS on irishisptest.ie.

No, it's not. The graph on IrishISPtest shows kbps or Mbps. b is bits, B is bytes.

153kBps would be an excellent speed on a 1Meg service - you'd be getting about 120% of what you paid for. 153kbps isn't nearly as good - 3 or 4 times dialup speed.

Your speeds are crap by any standards other than those of IBB. Bad choice of ISP. Call them by all means. If you haven't had the connection for long, try to get them to cancel it and go for a decent provider instead.

I know Eircom are by no means cheap but at least the more or les give you what you pay for.

    For example -
You have a 1Mbps and are getting a speed of 150 kbps
I have a 2 Mbps and am getting 1.64 Mbps

If you go with a crap provider you risk getting nowhere near the speed they advertise. IBB are a joke, id look into canceling the service

All these remarks about IBB? Been on the 1Mb Breezemax product for 6 months and consistantly got 1Mb (yeah I know I'm on a unpopulated mast).

Joebhoy1916, make the call to IBB before changing, you never know you might be surprised

Could people who refust to capitalise letters properly please stop confusing people with the bits Bytes issue ? It happens numerous times a day on this forum. Moriarty if you're reading this please start bitch slapping people for it...

If you're into the wireless thing you could try Digiweb. For something that's likely to work, ADSL is the best shot, though. BT Ireland are the cheapest and while the service works, they have the world's most incompetent billing dept which makes it difficult to recommend them. With BT it's €35pm for 1Mbps incl line rental.
