A hopefully-simple question folks - how much money are you talking about for a high court case on a point of company law? Rough ballpark figure, I mean.

How long is a piece of string?

Depends on how many days it goes on for and how many barristers are employed. I would say €3-4K a day for your side and similar for the oppositition.

I think this might be on the low side. Don't forget you will incur a lot of cost before you even arrive at the four goldmines. For a recent case lasting 6 days at trial plus interlocutory injunction hearings, estimated costings were €250,000 pre-trial, €10-15k per day for our side. Similarly for the other side. Two senior, one junior each side.

    Oh, and plus VAT!

It depends entirely on the complexity of the matter and how long the issue goes on (both pre-trial and trial). The level of work involved by your solicitor, brief fees for senior and junior counsel, pleadings, correspondence, etc.

Very rough ball park figures could be something like, €7,500 brief fee for SC and maybe €1200-1400 per day, €5000 brief fee for BL and €500-1000 per day. Pleadings could be expensive and would be handled by the junior could be €1000-50,000+ (depends on complexity and volume of work). Solicitors fees depends on several factors. They'll charge you for initial instructions, opening a file, all the correspondence they have to send out, phone calls, faxes, photocopying, time spent on file by solicitor and other staff, etc. Who knows how much this will cost. I suppose €15000-100,000+..

When you say "on a point of law" what do you mean?

If both sides agree on the facts and don't bring up any preliminary matters and there are no witnesses, then you'll save a fourtune, since you'll only need a day for legal arguments.

If it's a straight-forward question, there's no need for a Junior and Senior on both sides.
