I was having awful problems with Divx crashing Windows explorer on me so I formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows XP (tablet edition).

I had Media player 10 installed with the latest divx codec and media player will not play my Divx files.

    Can anyone help, please.

Easy option do away with DivX and use XviD. It's the same thing though DivX has a slightly better deblocker.

If you want DivX to do the decoding I'd suggest re-installing he codec again to make sure it gets associated with the proper file type and video codec.

    yep, reinstalled it already.

I'll try Xvid, forgot about that.

    Thanks

I imagine your problem could have been solved with far less trouble than reinstalling Windows as people always seem too eager to do. In your case you still have your problems with the codec but I get the impression that your box is no longer crashing. Try using VLC or Media Player Classic.

I needed a reinstall anyway. It seems that the new version of the Divx codec doesn't work with Media Player 10 or 11.
