    Hi
I've a (late 1998 - "new" model) VW Golf with a Beta car radio. The radio has gone into SAFE mode (after the battery died). Would anyone know the 4-number code to unlock the radio? Also, can you give me instructions on how to enter the code?
    Thanks!

instrutions on how to input the code should be in the manual or i'm sure you could google them.
as for the code if someone hasn't written it in the service book or radio manual then lift the carpet in the boot and have a good look around in the wheel well for an old fashioned price style sticker with a 4 digit code on it. Thats the code. otherwise it'll need to be plugged onto a computer to get the code and that'll cost you

Yep - it should be in the boot. There are usually 2 stickers in the boot stuck to one side of the spare wheel well. One contains chassis number, engine number, paint code and other vehicle data. The other, a smaller sticker, has 2 numbers on it - one is a 14 digit number and the other is your 4 digit radio code. If you can't find this sticker then your local VW dealer can remove your stereo and on another sticker on the radio chassis is the same 14 digit number that should be in the boot. This dealer sends this number to the VW importer who can supply the original 4 digit code.

The only snag is how much a VW dealer will charge for this service and how many weeks it will be before they will book you in:rolleyes:
