Cordless Phone and Blueface

    Hi all,

I have blueface using a standard phone connected to a linksys WRTP54G router (built-in ATA). When I connect a standard 'corded' phone the service is perfect. But when I connect my cordless phone (Southwestern Bell S2100) to the router the connection breaks up and is unusable. The people on the receiving end tell me that they can hear me ok, but I can't talk to them - sounds like a really bad mobile connection (breaking up all the time).

Anyone else using a cordless phone with blueface (or any voip, for that matter)? Any known issues? It does confuse me how it works at all as I have wireless broadband, wireless router and then the cordless - surely there must be interference somewhere?

    Thanks.

I was, for the last year or so. I got rid of it due to the fact it was burning my brain to bits
I have to say though, I never had any noticable problems with it. I was using a DECT comp. phone if I remember.

    Thanks azzeretti.

I changed the channel on the router and it seems to be working better now. Will test it for a while and see how it goes.

I had issues originally when using a "cheaper" cordless phone but after getting a more expensive one the quality of calls improved dramatically.

    Changing the channel also helps.

I often wondered if getting a 5ghz phone would make any difference, but they don't appear to be easy to buy - that or my google skills really suck :D

    thanks Harney.

What's the name of the more expensive one? Mine is still working (18 hours and counting) but I'm not too confident it will last.

    Hi Kroc

I wasn't pointing to a particular brand. The phone I have simply has a name of:

    Text@home

It was more expensive in that it cost me e150 about 4 years ago (probably quite cheap actually :) ) but I had not been using it with my blue face setup initially. When I switched back to it the quality difference was noticeable instantly. Before that I was using the cheapest cordless phone I could buy.

Lately thought, what has put the icing on the cake is a router with QOS. I now reserve 25% of bandwidth for calls and the sound is perfect. 90% of the calls are going to Spain so it is not just the Irish system it is traversing.

I hope this helps, or at least gives you some pointers.

I assume that the router is wireless - in which case the wifi runs in the same airspace as a dect phone. Hence you need some channel seperation on the router.

Yes good thinking jimmy that sw bell is 2.4ghz..If changing the channells dosent sort it..there are still some 900mhz dect handsets @small money out there that shouldnt interfere with it..

Harney I'm interested in your advise to improve my call quality but can you explain how to change the channel?.Change channel on what? Explain please.
I'm using a Binatone cardless 1.88 to 1.9 Ghz bandwidth with a channel bandwidth of 1.728. Is this o/k to work with Blueface as I'm getting reports back that people I call are saying my voice is breaking up sometimes on and off.
    Regards

....changing the channel on the router. There are something like 13 channels in the router setup. Go through each one and try them. It helped mine a bit, but still have to reboot it occassionaly.

But now my cordless phone has gone and died on me (possibly something to do with my daughter washing it under the tap - not sure though???) so I have to get a new one. I have had a look around for the dect 900 phones but can't find any and also have read reviews saying they are more likely to be interfered with?

Any suggestions for a cordless phone to work with the wireless router?
