Samsung D500 freezing intermittently

    Hi,

my sister owned a Samsung D500, which never gave her any trouble at all. She got it unlocked for my mum by an unlocking shop when she upgraded. Ever since then, the phone has been randomly freezing while either making a call or being on one, in that no key responds (though you don't get disconnected) and the only way to shut it off when this happens is to remove the battery!

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with the D500 or if it was down to dodgy unlocking? If so, what would be the best course of action? Can they be easily reflashed (in case this was the problem)? My sis enquired on repair costs and was quoted something like €70.

No, she's on O2 (the phone was formerly on Orange UK). Do Meteor D500phones freeze regularly?

well i bought an orange phone and im meteor and i cant make or receive calls the phone keeps freezing every time some one rings. so i bought a vodafone sim and its workin grand now. its just because of the orange branded software on the phone. if u take it into a phone shop they can flash it and put the original samsung software back on it. it shud work ok then.

I would get them to put the original firmware back onto the phone, obviously a buggy upgrade.

theres a thread up above saying how to debrand the phone. should work fine then

    Update:

I bought a flasher kit off eBay (cable and software) and over the weekend I put on the original Samsung firmware. I have to say the layout of the screens and their icons are much nice now!

    However...

Ten minutes into using it, while on a call, the phone freezes again, meaning I had to take out the battery to hang up.

Since I've now put on the original firmware, I don't think it's that that's causing the intermittent freezing. This didn't happen before unlocking the phone - could it have been damaged internally during it being unlocked? Is there anything else I can try or is it repair time?

quick question, is it ALL the buttons not responding, or just the ones from the upper part of the slider, or bottom part?

    Hi Gilgamesh

all the buttons stop responding. The only way to disconnect when it happens is to remove the battery :( It can happen during a call (eg. when you want to hang up) or when adding / modifying entries in the phone book.

could be that the ribbon cable inside is faulty, heard of a few issues with the D500 models which had this, normally it only affected the upper buttons and sometimes there was no picture on the LCD allthough the phoen was started up.
I would recommend getting it checked or sent in for inspection.
