The only decent recruitment agency i've ever come across is the one that got me my current job, Eolas recruitment. They actually return your calls and push to get you a good salary.

Some are good, some are bad.
If you want worthwhile responses you should be a bit more specific about what aspect of Recruitment Agencies you want opinions on.

Sorry but I have never got a job via them. I find they put you on a panel when they have one or two good candidates this inevitable leads you to attend an interview that you haven’t a chance in getting.

No thumbs down there just want their pound of flesh off you! Should be all shot!

In my experience they just seem to advertise loads of jobs, gather up CV's and approach employers with them. I work in Banking and every 2 to 3 months I get a call from one of the agencies but I've learned that most of them are chancers so I dont bother with them now even when I am looking around.

I guess alot of them - agencies - need to have, a stockpile of CV's - just incase, they are approached, by an employer.

I wouldn't be surprised, if they advertised " phantom jobs " mostly.

In fairness - they can waste, alot of peoples time !

They are a means to an end. If you get the right consultant at the right time you'll think they are great other. Otherwise you'll hate them. Its a clinical business.

    COWBOYS !!!!!!!!

You are only a commodity to help someone get their commission, once they realise they cant sell that commodity they move on to the next person.

I spent four months working as a recruitment consultant and boy did my opinions of them change!!
I'm sure there are some good ones out there but in general my opinion of them are " They are Pirates"!!!!!!
The only thing they are interested in is how much commission you are worth to them. Seeing as they get a percentage of your salary from the employer, of course they will push for a better salary!! Now, if youe were to go straight to that employer yourself without the help of an agency, chances are you would get a better salary as the employer does not have to budget for an agency fee therefore would have more money to offer etc.
I had no on the job technical training therefore i hadn't a clue regarding advice, opinion and the positions themselves but i was trained to sell the job with the best salary even if the job was the least attractive.

I got out as i had a conscience!!!
    Ive stayed clear ever since

I was dealing with one of them recently enough, and I ended up getting a job offer from the interview. When I handed in my notice my current company matched the money, and the new company obviously couldn't do anything more because I never heard back after that. Would have expected some type of contact given that I had received the contract for the new place at this stage. If that's the worst experience I have with a recruitment agency, I would be quite happy though.

I’d prefer not to use them but every job I’ve had since college has been through an agency.
For my current role, I applied directly to the company and got rejected. This was fair enough.

But I really wanted the position so I applied again two weeks later through an agency and got the position. I knew the agency job was the same as the job spec was identical. Strange how I succeeded as my CV didn’t change

Agency was Executive Connections and they were very good as I put my start date back 4 times. They didn’t push very hard for my salary though and I negotiated a higher salary for myself than what they’d asked for.

My employer could have saved a few thousand if they’d employed me directly. They’ve since stopped taking direct applications and the job is with 6 different agencies on irishjobs.ie. Can’t figure out why.
