I'm off to Denmark to work for a few months soon. Specifically Roskilde outside Copenhagen. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a few things about the country itself. Especially living costs, like how much is food? And beer, in off-licenses and pubs? Do pubs stay open late like germany and the benelux countries?
Would the people, laws etc. be more like they are in temperate sweden/finland? Or the liberal, tolerant low-countries? Specifically in regard to, shall we say a certain botanical recreational activity.

How bout Roskilde itself? I heard it's a university town, does it have a good nightlife then?

    Cheers

Living costs: It varies alot. While it's not like living in Poland you can definitely live cheap if you want to. Do your shopping in Netto for savings.
Beer: The minimum wage in Denmark is high so anything that involves service bcomes expensive. A working class Bodega (type of Bar) will be very cheap but very few people go to these. Buying beer in supermarkets can be really cheap and save you an absolute fortune. It's common for Danes to drink a few in each others houses before heading out. Many pubs stay open late, some very, very late. Most Nightclubs are of the pop music variety and a bit chessy.
Laws & attitudes: Danes are very, very liberal but the cops aren't. Botanical recreation is widely accepted. Be sure to check out Christiania for this.
Roskilde: A little dull as a town. When are you going? Maybe the students will be gone?
Feel free to ask any more questions!
