Problem concerning openGL

Hey, i was a bit bored today and so installed an old game called The Chronicles of Riddick. However when i went to play it an error came saying "This application requires graphics driver support for openGL 1.3 or higher" followed by another message saying:

"Runtime Error!
Program:.....studios\RiddickEFBB\System\Win32_X86_SSE2\SbzEngine.exe

abnormal program termination"

The game worked fine on my old computer, and this was the first time i tried it on my new pc. I had the newest nvidia drivers installed, but i changed to an older version (84. something) when the game wouldn't run but it didn't help.

Any ideas on what's wrong? I also have a problem with Far Cry where the graphics are very very very bright and alot or textures aren't shown (could be totally unrelated to the above problem), however all my other games work with no problem, these include the likes of Oblivion, UT 2004, Quake 4, Doom 3, Hl2....

This was a known issue, simply you need to update the game with whatever was the last patch released & its should work. It was due to the introduction of OpenGL 2.0 support into NVIDIA's drivers as the game was coded to expect 1.3 - 1.5 which is why it crashed, the patch fixes that.

As for FarCry do you have HDR enabled ?

Or have you updated the game to what ever was the last patch 1.35 or 1.36 I think, you have to install the 1.30 patch before jumping to those if you are on anything earlier.

thanks alot for your help, i'm downloading that as i type, it'll be a while since broadband isn't available out here in the sticks

As for far cry, i thought it might have been related to the riddick problem but it's would appear not, i set the video settings to the lowest, and it looked awful but all textures appeared to be displayed, too hard to tell cause it's looks terrible at its lowest settings.
As for HDR, i can't recall that been available in far cry, i could be wrong tho, but HDR causes no problem for me in other games like HL. I have the game uninstalled now, but i will install it later and update it to the newest patch and tell ya the results.

far cry should have a link to go online you will find 4 patches there that will get rid of that bright cr*p:cool:

Well thanks for the help again, the far cry patches worked no problem, i should have thought of that before, however i never updated it on my old pc and it worked fine, doesn't matter now anyway thanks for the help:)

As for riddick, i downloaded the wrong patch, i downloaded the 1.1 UK patch instead of the US patch as i brought the game in america The patch will solve the problem anyway, thanks again.
