I switched on my laptop today to connect to the net. I am using Mozilla firefox as my browser, anyway it won't connect. So I tryed IE and the same. So I went to the desktop in the house which also uses IE and no joy. So I scanned the desktop for a virus and did the same with the laptop. The desktop is connecting to the net fine now, but the laptop just wont. I installed winamp on my laptop just before all this happened, could that have anything to do with it? I am using a wireless connection on my laptop and am using €ircom BB. Any help much appriciated.

How far are you getting? Can you ping the router?

I doubt winamp messed it up. A virus most likely won't kill your internet connection, it relys on it to spread.

Ahh no my wireless card will pick up the signal, but when I launch Mozilla it won't connect same with IE.

Really not giving much info here.

Winamp shouldnt be an issue though. What wireless card are you using? Any error messages? When you hover over the wireless icon in system tray what does it say?

using IE check Internet options on desktop and make sure they're the same for laptop.

Sorry lads, I got the problem fixed. Turns out that I needed to install some updates on my computer. A message came up that prompted me to do so when I was turning off my computer.

disable the auto update setting in security centre, it will get in the way of your browsing slowing it down to a crawl at times:D

Do so only if you can get yourself in the habbit of doin it manually. updates are important for security.

I don't like the way automatic updates automatically restarts your computer to install even after you deferred with 'Not now'. You could be downloading overnight and awake in the morning to find yourself pornless or something. Having your torrent client run on Windows start isn't practical either.
