Package sent but not received

I live in Dublin and I bought a item to the value of 100 euro about 2 weeks ago from a shop in the UK through their website.
The package was to be delivered by DHL.
The package didnt arrive so I emailed the shop.
They did an investigation, and DHL claim that the delivery was effected and signed for, and they have a signed delivery slip as proof.
Apparantly, on the delivery slip is just the initials S.B. and no such person with those initials lives at my address and I didnt receive the parcel.
The shop wont resend the package, and informed me to take the matter up with the police.
I guess the package was sent by the shop but there was a mistake made by DHL and they delivered it somewhere else or it got lost.
Whatever happened, I dont have my package and I'm sure the police wont want to know.
What are my options, if any, to either get the parcel resent or my money back?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

This happens all the time with packages sent through DHL. I manage an inwards warehouse and always get wrong packages from DHL.

Golf clubs, toasters, even a painting one day and we manufacture PCBs! What happens is when the packages come in from outside Ireland, they place a second delivery label for scanning on the package before it is sent out for delivery here. All it takes is one mistake of an operator and the wrong label is on your package. Most of the wrong packages we get in have two different address labels on them. I bet you any money that was dropped off by mistake with some other packages

I would talk to the DHL driver in your area. Ask DHL for a contact number for him or talk to someone in a nearby factory, they will know the driver by first name most of the time.

DHL in Ireland is all sub-contracted and run mostly by owner drivers who are sound, so you should have no problem... dont mind contacting the guards, put yourself in their shoes! they wouldnt be arsed looking!

    Hope this helps.

well if it is lost by DHL, then I guess the chances are i will never get it..
so do I pursue DHL or the shop for re-imbursement?
afterall my contract was with the shop, i shouldnt have to chase DHL?

I bought a monitor from Komplett that never arrived. After getting nowhere with komplett myself I rang my credit card company and they did a chargeback and refunded my money. They first have to give the shop 30 days to sort it out and if its not sorted by then they refund your money. Komplett are entitled to legally challenge the credit card company. In my case they did not have a signature so it was end of argument. In your case I'm sure it will be a simple matter of verifying your signature and comparing it, once they see they don't match it will be end of story. thats assuming they will even bother challenging it.

btw, you bought the goods from the shop, not DHL. Don't let them fob it off onto DHL.

thanks very much, that seems to be the simplest way to go.
Will my credit card company, which is bank of Ireland definetly refund the money just like that?

They will after they investigate the matter. It will then be the shops problem who will have to chase DHL for their money back.

Obviously they have to make sure you're not just a chancer. They first got my side of the story, got me to forward on any emails and then contacted komplett themselves. From that point on it was no longer my problem all I had to do was wait.

You go after the shop... they can go after DHL (you have no relationship with DHL so can't sue them or anything)
