i did my leaving this year but i think i'm going to repeat, firstly because I'm almost sure I didn't get the points and secondly because i just don't feel like i'm ready for college yet. How does everyone else feel about college?

If you don't feel like going straight into college, you can always defer the place (if you're happy with it) for a year?

I'm kinda wondering too. Everyone seems to be telling me to repeat or defer coz i'm not 18 till next April but I still want to go to college. Any suggestions???

i know plenty of people who went to college at 17 and they got on fine. One girl i know is only turning 18 in 2 weeks and she's going into her second year of physio. If you defered your place, what would you do for the year? work? travel? do nothing? that's what you need to think of really.
Personally i can't wait to get to college...now and again i get a little apprehensive but it's just because it's a new experience and I'm not entirely sure what to expect. I'm really looking forward to it though.

I was 17 entering college, and wasn't 18 until February of that year. It can be good or bad for you if you jump right in after doing your leaving cert, especially as the standard usually jumps. But it really depends on you, and what you want.

Do remember though that if your friends are going into college, and are in the same year (though maybe not course) isn't a reason for you to go into college. I've just taken a year out between third and fourth year engineering in Trinity, and while my mates have just finished their studies, I'm glad that I took the year out to settle me before I go in for the long slog that is final year.

So it's up to you. By the way, if you change your mind within around two weeks or so when you enter the course, you should be able to either transfer to another course (places/points pending) or else 'drop out' and keep any free fee entitlements that you are entitled to.

I'm ready, I should imagine. There's no way in hell I'm repeating the LC, so I guess I have to be ready! I just hope I get one of my choices, then I can relax...

Yeah I didn't really feel ready, but I repeated, can't wait for it now knowing full well what it's like.

I know how you feel Champagne, when i did my leaving cert i was nowhere near ready for college. A few of my friends felt the same, went on to college and then left soon after.

Thing to remember is theirs no rush. I spent the last couple of years travelling and working in various grotty min wage jobs, then went back, studied french. And now at 21 I'm only now heading off to college.

But now i feel fully ready and excited. The thing is, we all mature at different rates.. especially around 17-22.. so do what you feel like. I'm pretty sure if you go to college when you don't want to then you'll prob leave again. You can repeat, take gap years, travel. Do whatever.

    Best of luck

i felt like that last year
    so i repeated
biggest waste of a year EVER
if you want to repeat cos you want more points then thats up to you
but if its just cos your not ready for college i'd strongly advise just taking a year out and work/travel or something

No I am ready. I can't wait really. Doesnt start properly until october for me though so I have a good long summer holiday ahead of me. I don't think the whole maturity thng really matters at the end of the day. It's just going to be liek starting secondary school all over again! Only better.
