recently my newly bought my book 500 Gb external hd messed up, i just started up my pc and it said the drive was in raw data from and needs to be formated, i went frantic as you'd imagine as for 6 weeks ive been using it and it had 400 Gb's of data on it, i have no idea how it either got corrupt or any reason for it so be in raw data format? to try and salage my data i done a quick format and i haven written any data to it at all.

i want to find out whats the best hard drive recovery software as ive been using a program called " recover my files" and it was nearly 40% done searching through my drive and got about 33gb of data after it searching constantly for 50! hours then unforantly windows update came on when i wasnt on the pc and restarted my pc for updates.. as you can guess im quite ****** off any body recommend a good solid quick program?

A prog called data recovery. Had a prob myself and tried many progs. some let you see the files but wont let you recover them until you purchase, others let you recover them 1 at a time. i found data recovery best as you can recover them all together. v fast, i recovered 1000 pics in 3 mins. its also freeware. google data recovery. good luck.

    This should be stickied.

Edit: googled it myself and couldn't find. pm me your email cos i got 5 recovery utilities here i can send you.

i dont know if you have tried this but if you place the HD in a sealed bag and then into the freezer/fridge for a few hours and then take it out and connect it back up it should start back up ok and give you enough time to recover the data, believe me this works i've done it loads of times when i thought everything was lost.

i would also suggest ontrack its pretty good software.

Actaully did this last night on a laptop HD and yes it does work. But it's only useful in the case where there is a physical problem with the hard drive, and not a file corruption or accidental delete etc.
