Hi i would be curious to know of anyone who has obtained a job in I.T, straight after getting their degree from college(not tech support) WITHOUT work experience(and how long it took).
Id be talking about recently enough too.Im second year in a computer networking degree and seriously considering turning my hand to something else...i like it but thing is i dont want to be waiting a year r two after i finish to get a job, everyone wants the experience...any words of advice???(particularly from networking graduates)....

Just finished a degree in Information systems this year, I have been offered 3 jobs all software development (2 grad programs and 1 job). Started looking last November had my first job offer by about April. The trick is to start looking October-November before you graduate, you will be fine if you do that. BTW I didnt have any work experience in my course. Lots of threads here about this

If you are looking to get into the networking\Sys admin side then you have to do tech support first. If you are looking to get into development well their are lots of graduate programs out there but you would want to have a good degree 2.1 or higher IMO.

As the lads asid, you should definitely apply to all the grad programmes. I did a similiar degree to yourself and got offered place on a grad programme before even sat exams. They give you loads of training and good prospects for progression. Out of the 10ish people from my class that i've kept in touch with all 10 have gotten IT jobs, including S/W Engineer, Server Support/Admin, Field service eng.,localisation, nobody doing (phone) tech support..... I started course just as .com bubble burst and everyone advised me to get out of it but it has really picked up again and there is good money to be made of you get the right job .i.e. avoid phone support as IMO, the pay is crap, the job is crap and future employers wont really rate this as good "IT experience"
