three euros in fairness sounds about inline with inflation, everything goes up that amount if it was 30 okay you'd have a point but come on 3 euros a year. nothing.

I reckon the World Cup coverage alone was value for the licence fee.

i just dont reckon we get value for money, if i only watch satellite and Uk channels can i not pay? :)

I dont mind paying the licence fee to have a state broadcaster, what does bother me is why we have to pay part of the 900k a year to Pat "cardboard" Kenny and a similar amount to Gerry "the chin" Ryan.

no, you still pay. you are paying to own a television, not to watch RTÉ

well we do pay the bill of course because we have 7 tv's but i dont see whats the point in the tv licence like whats it to them if we have a tv or not?

anyway i can watch tv over the internet for free unless they try to charge me for that also

    and for what?

Did you even read the Department's link you posted?

The licence fee is not a one-off grant - it's a 'live' income, a steady revenue stream that RTÉ depends on, just as everyone else is dependent on gradual pay increases. It does not have control over this licence income, regardless of how well the station may have performed - hence it is up to Government to grant such increases.
Note this €3 doesn't even come close to current inflation.

You don't - each are substantial revenue-earners, with the Late Late alone pulling in €9 million a year in advertising.
