Getting Motorbike Keys Cut

I'm in the process of trying to find someone who'll cut me a key for my bike for the last few months. No-one seems to want to do it, or know who might do it (although most have pointed in the direction of bigger locksmiths, who do the same thing).

I've got one bent key for my bike, and really need a couple of spares. To be specific it's a Yamaha, Fazer 400cc '98.

Is this usual? Does no-one cut bike keys? Are they that different to other keys that locksmiths have to get other default sets in?

I got a bike key cut in a shop Walkinstown. So long ago I cannot recall exactly why, but probably for the same reason you're posting here: few places cut bike keys.
Checked the Golden Pages for the name of the shop and I think it's Crowthers, tel (01)4567947.
    139 St Peter's Road.

It's not far from the magic roundabout, one of a group of shops on left leaving the roundabout. Give 'em a bell first.

Ring Alpha Lock and Safe in Tallaght - have a special section for auto keys. Give them a bell and they should help.

Crothers did my Honda key for me, needed a bit of fine tuning/filing afterwards to get it right. Know their stuff.

got a bike key cut by a local locksmiths.
he did it as a favor,
just picked out a key that looked similar and did it.

the key was a bit sticky at the start,
2 months later my ignition barrel was screwed and would no longer turn.
"luckily" it had been sticking a bit recently so i wasnt in the habit of engaging the steering lock.
had a nice walk to the shop where it cost me 80eu for a new barrel.
apparently the key had been slowly but surely ripping the inside of the lock apart.

so, my point, get it done by someone who actually knows what there doing,
not someone who says, a sure i think i have a key that size ;)

Buy a key blank from your manufacturer. Any bike shop should be able to get the part number for your particular bike and order it. Bought mine from honda for 4 quid, its original and is unlikely to fail when its cut.
