Right i am currently working with a company and being honest i dont like it, And not getting hours i was due to move to Wales in the Middle of aug and going to head now on the 31st, And leavin work on the 28th. I want to leave on good terms by giving a full 2 weeks notice. Now i am off Wed/Thur/Friday/Sat (Crap hours) and wont actually see her till the Following Monday and she is impossible to actually get time to talk to her. Question is would i be better off Trying to tell her today/ Write a letter and leave it on her desk and she will get it tomorrow. Leaving a letter really seems to be my only option as you need to give her about a week notice if you want to talk to her.I no i am prob making a mountian out of a mole but Its THAT hard to talk to her.

write a letter - just something short and to the point -

    Dear X

It is with regret that I am writing to inform you that I have decided to pursue further opportunities abroad and would like give notice of my intention to finish work with COMPANY X on July 28th. I have enjoyed the time I spent here and wish you and the company all the best for the future.

    Regards,

    Sign Name

Then just go to her office, knock on door - say I just need a minute of your time to give you this and tell her you will be leaving.

Don't just leave it on her desk, without either speaking to her/sending and email or leaving a message with secretary

Dont forget to date the letter so they know when to start counting your two weeks notice. Also send a follow up email the same day so she knows the date is genuine.

Then just leave the letter on her desk/in her in tray and send her an email apologising, but you tried to talk to her in person......

E-mail can be the black hole of corporate communication. Could you leave a voice mail or attempt to get her by phone outside your normal working hours?

No as i said she is never interested in talking. I will just give it to her Monday, Date it the 28th and said i tried to talk to you but could not.

It's not surprising that you're leaving if you can't even get to talk to your manager to hand in your notice. I'd just leave a sealed letter marked 'IMPORTANT' on her desk (on top of her keyboard), send here an e-mail informing her of it and talk to her on Monday.

Has she a manager above her?
Why not email her and cc her manager. That's how I see most important emails being sent.
Also, you can put read receipts on emails as well.

I would serve notice on them by registered post to arrive 2 weeks before you leave. You have proof of delivery and there is no need to even talk to her.
