FTA Satellite Receiver problem

I have a generic digital (Conrad) FTA satellite receiver box which now seems to be completely bolloxed.
I am pretty positive that it is not the satellite feed itself (i.e. satellite is aligned properly, gignal strength is 95 %) because the box has had intermittent problems in the last 6 months, inidcated by loss of input - i.e screen goes black suddenly (i.e. without break up of pic due to bad weather, rain etc., unrelated to actual weather conditions) for initially a short period of time but inreasingly longer and then comes back just as as sudden, the info menu shows no fluctuation at all in signal strength and other indicators (which it always did when the satellite was misaligned) - all red :-(. It all seems to have started with some corruption in the box when no remote control or direct button input was accepted and a hard reset was required to fix it (i.e. unplug for extended period). Ever since the box has been unreliable.
Before I go off and buy another receiver, I just want to know if these problems are really receiver problems and not say LNB probs?
    Any input gratefully accepted. Cheers

If you disconnect the LNB the menus and picture should be perfect, but no signal.
Sounds like the receiver. Good ones start from about 90Euro Plus postage

Thanks Watty for you input. Well, I can now say with confidence it is not the box. Signal is still erratic, goes for days and comes back for a while and then gone again. Or else fluctuating widly. I turned off the LNB and back on last night and the signal came back for the restof the night. Don't whether this is a causal connection as it is gone again this morning and turning off and on of the LNB didn't make a blind bit of a difference?!
So its either a wonky LNB or faulty cabling, right?
Sigh. I was hoping to avoid the trip on the scary roof. Is there any way to pin down one or the other without replacing either first? As I have none lying around :)
BTW, I can wholeheartedly recommend Corksat.com.
