    Hi,

Just got a dvd from oxegen of me and a mate in the bungy ball thing and the disk isn't being recognised. On inspection the area of the disk that is written on is small (expected) but it begins about 7 - 8 mm from the inner edge, as opposed to at the inner edge.

Is there any way of getting the data off the disk?

    Dan

    DVD Player:
    DVD Drive in PC:
    PS2/Xbox :

Normally if you can't see it in the PC you can't retrieve it but there are a few ways to try get it to read!!

Doesn't work in the PC or the xbox. Haven't tried a standard dvd player. Just wondering if they "closed" the disc properly...

The PC won't recognise a disc in the drive so I can't get any apps to read it. Good idea though

Did you try the DVD drive's properties?? In there you can populate the disk so try doing that and get ISOBUSTER to pickup the image if it does populate!!

    Are you using WinXP???

    If so open "My Computer"
Right click the drive your DVD is in and click "Properties"
    Then choose the "Hardware" tab.
Then in the new box/window that pops up click on the drive again and hit "Properties".
A new window will have opened....
    Click on the "Volumes" tab.
    And now click on "Populate"
If there is anything readable on the disk it will now show your disk size etc on that screen and if there is something there you can use different programs to try and read the data!!

What version of XP? Is it totally updated?

Windows did not recognice UDF type DVD's. I believe they released a patch for this.
I have the same problem on all UDF written DvD's - and refuse to update until I get broadband.

Disc seems to just keep spinning in the drive. It locks up the properties box until I eject the disc again.......getting that sinking feeling tbh.

It's xp with sp2 installed. Tried it in my work PC and the same problem.

Probable they didn't make the disc correctly and took your money and ran!

If the disc isn't being read by the hardware then I think it can be written off as a dud.

Either the disc itself if of poor quality or they botched up the creation of the disc.

As a last ditch effort if you know someone with a BenQ 16xx series DVDRW drive try putting it in that as they are one of the best readers of damaged discs, if there is anything salavagable it should read it.

Have you tried updating your DVD drivers? I had a problem with my DVD drive not recognising movie DVDs at all & new drivers completely fixed the problem.
