Will someone please help me??!! Im going absoulutely insane.

I have been trying to upload songs on myspace for about 2.5 months now. A variety of things have happened which have prevented me from doing so.

The first is, they ask you to email myspace to be considered as an aritst. They ask you to provide your relationship to the band, band name, url, genre etc. So you email that off, and you never get a response. I have followed this up by emailing about 35 times at this stage and have never once gotten a response that way either.

Lately I have found a way of bypassing this part of the process and got to the page where you upload songs. After every time I try to upload a song, it comes back saying 'processing failed, please try again'. I dont understand why it failed. The files are in windows media player MP3 format and are about 3megs each. Myspace asks that each one is no more that 100megs. I tried to email about them about this through customer service but keep getting back a generic email about 'changing my email address'. Which is obviously not what I asked.

I have set up about 9 email addresses on yahoo trying to do this as when im in one of the logins on yahoo and I get stuck, I set up another one to try the process again.

Im so annoyed over this, Its not like I can ring anyone from myspace to find out what the problem is. Im going absolutely insane, all I want is to put my songs on the net.

You should look into some of the copyright implications of putting your music up on myspace first.

Billy Bragg has been having a go at them over a clause in their terms of use.

Oh god,,,dont mention myspace to me! Our ex singer deleted our page 2 weeks ago just out of spite. Kids will be kids I suppose.

I can't help you regarding my space but as its plainly a PITA maybe you should consider a different and more dedicated music site, like www.soundclick.com

obvious question but are you signed up as an artist or as a normal user?

Yeah you have to be signed up AS an artist not change later, go to the music section and click on "Artist Signup" if youre not, then just sign up and you can upload away to your hearts content, well 4 songs. If you are already on as an artist, try opening a new account. I have five artist pages for various projects and uploading works fine on all of my accounts

guys, this is what im saying to you. Ive gone to artist sign up and tried to upload songs. Thats when im getting the message 'processing failed, please try again'.

Also magnum force, it says in my original post that I have various accounts on my space already due to trying to start the process all over again and it still doesnt work.

No as you can see above, you said you had multiple yahoo email accounts, you said nothing about multiple myspace accounts, read your own post before correcting me.

If you cant upload using various accounts then the problem is most likley your computer, is there any reason why any programs on your computer might be stopping you from uploading things to the net? can you upload things to other sites?

Why would you be emailing them to ask them to "set you up as an artist" if youve already signed up as one? what more do you expect them to be able to do? When you sign up you are taken to a page so that you can fill in your details so that they can be submitted and be displayed on your profile. There is no emailing involved. I have never, ever, ever heard of anyone being "asked to email myspace to be considered as an artist". Perhaps you should take time to review the situation and find the exterior problem, a problem which i am beginning to suspect may be a lack of knowledge on your part of this area.

Ok guys, sorry if I come across as narky. I dont see how that is coming across. However, if it is, I apologise. Im just very frustrated with the whole thing and want to figure out what is going on. Compounded by the fact that people reply with comments that have nothing to do with your original question. Ah well, the nature of the public forum I suppose.:)

Yes it could be due to my computer, ill have to have a look into that. When you say its a lack of knowledge on my part, I agree with you. Otherwise, why would I be asking for help if I had the knowledge in the first place. You say that you have never come across the emailing thing about the artist on my space, well it is there, even if you havent seen it. I have already stated that that's what I thought you had to do in order to become a featured artist in the first place. I then said that I found the path to set yourself up. My point is, they tell you you can email them for help but they never bother responding. What did I expect them to do? I expected them to email me back with the help they promised to provide.

Can I ask, what type of files are you uploading? Maybe myspace doesnt allow you to upload windows media player mpegs? Although I cant find any info there to support this theory.

An artist or a "featured artist"? because to be a featured artist, that sort of thing requires a large fanbase, popularity and/or money. I suppose you went to FAQ and saw "How do I become a featured artist" and noticed the answer was "Please send us an email stating you are interested in becoming a featured artist and we will have a representative contact you." well thats just for the people who get to be on the home page.

and in regards to the fact that they dont email you back anyway, they have almost 93million users, thats alot of people to help. Some people they just dont get round to, especially if the query they send is not dealt with by the people who are sent the queries.

I upload Mp3s cos thats all they'll accept. are yours WMAs or Mp3s i wonder? how did you convert the songs? Usually by default Windows media player compresses audio files using its own compression system into WMA(Windows Media Audio) files, which arnt compatible with Myspace. How did you record them aswell for that matter? What exactly is the filename of the song you are trying to upload, including extension, for example is it 000001.mp3 or 000001.wma or what?

Yes, it does seem like you are treating me like an idiot to be honest. If I knew the answers to all these questions, would I be asking them do you think?? You're being a little snappy and agressive with me, even though I apologised for the way I spoke to you. Although, it seems completely acceptable for you to do it to me.

Anyway, the files are in windows media player. which as you have said myspace do not accept. I did not know this!! As a person who doesnt have a degree in IT or as much knowledge as magnum force, im not sure how I was supposed to have known. It doesnt say it on the site anywhere.

I also didnt configure these files myself. The production company I worked with, put the songs on a CD for me. Then a friend of mine burnt the CD and emailed the songs to me - in the form of windows media player files.

Now without snapping, can you tell me how I configure these files into the right format? If you cant be civil, please dont respond at all.

I don't know why I'm bothering... but...

To get the files into MP3 format get the original CD, put it in your computer, open Windows Media Player, go to the tools menu, choose options, choose the rip music tab, and on the drop down menu select MP3, then click 'apply' and 'okay'

Then Choose the rip tab in the main interface and then click on the rip music button.

I did not see my previous posts as "snappy" in any way shape or form and especially not aggresive. I saw it as me helping you through a problem.

As you'll notice below, it says "Mp3" three time on the music upload page in fact. i think thats a bit of a clear indication that they only accept Mp3s, don't you?

Maybe next time we should just not help you then, yeah? I think everyone who has replied to you has been fairly nice and I do not see the reason why you are over reacting. If you don't want to deal with people, you can find out the information yourself. There is a whole load of people on Boards who are more than happy to help, and have done, and if you read back on the thread, you'll notice that everyone who have replied to you has offered their help and all you have done is get bitchy:

I meant it purely in a way meaning that I had no idea how familiar you were with using computers and if it happened to be that you had quite a large knowledge of working with them then it may appear that I was talking down to you and I just wanted to say that if you did have that knowledge I didnt want you to respond in a negitive way giving out to me for doing so.

But, as you seem to have little knowledge, it turns out that what I said has no bearing on the conversation anyway. Goodbye.
