Im fairly new to golf, are there any good places to get Golf Magazines online?

I found a good deal for the Golf Digest Ireland over at magazines365.com.. it looks fairly good, 12 months for €50.00 ... is it worth a read?

They also seem to have Golf Monthly for €48.54 what would be the better option?

I've tried a good few mags myself - golfers world/ todaysgolfer/ golfpunk/ golfdigets ireland (maybe one or two more - not sure).

Anyway - golfdigest ireland is now the only one I buy. It's pretty good as far as little tips etc. But has fairly interesting articles from pro's - life on tour etc. It has a fair few adverts, but doesn't seem to be as plastered with them like the other mags.

Also - it's Irish focused, so has reviews of Irish courses or regions, stories about Irish golfers - which for a novice like me is very informative. Not like the other mags - which seem UK based - they only talk about Ballybunion or Tralee or Portmarnock when/if they mention Irish courses or Ireland.

Golfdigest Ireland does a top 100 Irish courses too - which was cool. I have had the pleasure of playing a whopping - 3 - of the top 100 (once again prooving my beginner status), but it was nice to see which courses close by were rated highly....

Maybe people disagree totally with my choice, but thats my 2 cents...

golfdigest ireland is an irish franchise of golfdigest which has a different magazine for different markets/countries, and because of this will have more articles and features devoted to ireland than your average golf mag. so as del boy says it's the better of the magazines for irish content plus they have a couple of generic articles accross the board for all markets Ernie/tiger etc

12 months for €50! sounds like a great deal. Paid €6.35 for a copy of Golf Digest last week (which is the printed price on the mag)

I noticed that recently. It used to be only a fiver. Stopped buying it once I saw the increase... Not a bad mag but alot of ads and not worth that price.

So did the mags ever arrive? I took out a subscription for the missus of a fashion mag, but nothing ever arrived. No answer by magazines365 and no reply to emails. I think this site is a scam.

don't agree with this at all, they usually have only one or two irish articles, a pile of localized ads and the rest are all articles from the previous months golf digest.

It would be the one golf magazine I never buy, i'd buy the actual golf digest before this one. If I wanted Irish content I might look at backspin.

I always buy Today's Golfer. Think it's excellent. Wasn't impressed by Golf Digest at all.

They are overly expensive here though... the Todays Golfer costs 3.75 pounds in the UK, but retailers here charge 6.70 - 7.50 euro (almost double!)

    Pretty dear!

yeah, todays golfer is the one I've been reading since I took up golf. golf monthly is good too and I like golf magazine from the US. Borders stock all the US editions. Not a big fan of golf punk etc though.

i've seen the GUI magazine around the club from time to time

also seen it on the shelves.

it won Customer Magazine of the year in 2006 and it can be viewed online at www.gui.ie

looks OK - all the amateur stuff and some pro stuff too

I subscribed and got 1 old magazine. These guys arent monthly and all their contents are copied from Golf Digest USA which you can get on the same shelves cheaper and on line. Save your few quid, go to golfdigest.com;)

Biggest selling golf magazine in Ireland...doubt it. There top 100 was a joke with a bunch of old farts with nothing better to do. Ive seen this done before to get more sales. Their editor who I saw play golf is a hopeless golfer! Time for the scrap heap and time to start telling the truth if their capeable:rolleyes:

Todays Golfer is the best light reading all-rounder me and the one Im most likely to pick up.

    Golf International Magazine
, has a bit more quality reading in it. Like it for a plane journey or something as it has a bit more substance to it.

    Golf Punk Golf Junk.

Golf Monthly/GolfWorld/Golf Magazine/Golf Digest much of a muchness, but just shaded by Todays G.

Backspin is just a bit too light weight.

Avoid the Gui magazine. A scandalous love-in scam whose aim is to get as many Alec-a-dos/Blazers in photographs as possible.

They are all over priced junk in my opinion.

I just have a flick through them in easons then out the door empty handed.

    Funny guy.

No, but I would rather buy a book than monthly magazines.

I bought them for years, 3-4 per month. You soon realise that a lot of the material is VERY similar throughout the years, barring the new equipment.

I might read McDowells column, and Faldo had one, maybe still does. But the opinion of some jacked up editor who cannot break 80 is of no interest too me.

When all is said and done, you either have the talent to play golf or you dont, and no amount of instruction articles will provide a longterm fix.

I'd usually but one a month. I'd normally go for today's golfer, but if one of the others catch my eye i'll pick it up instead.

II know they probably follow a similar formula over the years, but i don't really buy it to read anything earth shattering or for instruction tips. I just want to be mildy entertained on my train home or while waiting in an airport. It's good to see what equiptment is coming out and there's normally the odd good feature on celebrity golfers or interview with a player or something.

My only problem with golf magazines in ireland is that they're so bloody expensive. I paid around 3.50 or so in the uk for today's golfer, but here's a its nearly 7 euro!!!

I agree with you to a certain extent but Golf International Magazine is in a different league completely. Really informative, great amateur section and not full of ads.

Golf punk is slightly off cuff too and can be quite humerous.

The rest spout the same ****e every month.

Think the reason for the big price difference is the VAT on Irish magazines is 21% so add that to the euro conversion price plus newsagents margin and hence the huge cost here!

hmmm... i didn't know that scout, cheers! Explains alot. It would almost be cheaper for me to have one posted over from the UK.

Must admit I like Backspin. I know its only published 3 times a year but its very much Irish focused and not loaded with practice drills. There is always some very good intervews - like the one this year with Rory mcIlroy.

The next issue is due out at the end of January.

Digest is OK but too much drills and ads and US content. Plus their rating of the top 100 courses last year in Ireland was a bit flawed from the point of view of their voting panel. I agree with one of the other "posts" it is expensive also.

We could have made the competition cheaper by using lesser courses but felt that this was a unique opportunity to allow golfers to play the best Kerry courses at a reasonable rate. If you were to play Tralee Ballybunion and Killarney the normal green fees would be around €400, beaufort is more affordable. Add in 4 nights B&B at a top class hotel and presentation dinner and suddenly €550 looks very attractive.

And this has what to do with golf magazines?????????

Posted in the wrong thread perhaps??

    Scout,
Apologies but that was just where the discussion took me. If you read the thread there were a couple of comments relating to the cost of the event.
I have contacted Backspin about promoting it and am awaiting a reply.
Interesting to note that GUI have dropped their magazine and will now change to a monthly newsletter with very little advertising.

No worries Krutt - I had read the other thread regarding your competition so figured it was posted in the wrong place.

Backspin is a god read but I'm not sure you would get the desired exposure given their limited publication - will there be an issue before your event?

In any event, best of luck with it - I have played Ballybunnion, Killarney and Tralee and they are certainly an attraction. Never played Beaufort so can't comment. Now can I get five days off in May:confused:

Any interest in different Golf Magazines from 10 to 20 or 30 years old.?

Would you like to see instruction from Jack and Arnie and Gary in their heyday.

Also who was to be successful and compare that to how it actually turned out?

Contemporary accounts of Major Winners and interviews.

A good source for understanding current thinking at the time.

Interesting to see how things compare and what changes took place.

Useful for Birthdays or Anniversaries, or something unusual for the Golf Nut.

    Let me know!

When I wrote this way back when, i was wondering if I was being a lttle cruel. No worries though. Was flicking through one from last summer in teh club the other day and it had a report on an Irish team win (home internationals? youth internationals?). There were more blazers in the photos than actual players! Claiming the glory as if they had hit shots themselves: President, secretary, captain, assistant deputy ball marker cleaner etc. If they werent all there on the back of our GUI subs it would be funny.

Ya i agree with that post alright.

Think TG is by far the best magazine it has a bit of everything.

I sometimes buy golf monthly and maybe golf world but really only buy them when they come with free book (instruction or travelguide) otherwise stick to TG which I buy about 10/12 in the year.
