im thinking of gettin the ol eyes lasered, getting fed up with glasses, im 26, have had a steady prescription of minus 2.5 for a few years now so i should be an ideal candidiate.

Assuming i am, i will probably go with optilase.

What is the most cost effective way of getting the procedure done, should i sign up to Vivas? i pay tax at the 42% rate what do i need to do to reclaim, do i need to have made a certain amount of prsi payments?

    and finally lasik or lasek?

I got it done about 5yrs ago..I think it was lasik

    cost I think £3000 punts

claimed back in the new year 2002 with the Med1 form after the op in September 2001

Hope it goes well. I used W.Power in Blackrock Clinic. He does about 8-10 ops/day. Very experienced and probably very rich

Just fill in the med1 form as you would every year, putting down the total amount of what you paid inc. all consultant fees and post it off. You should get a rebate cheque within a couple of weeks. It can only be done after the end of the tax year though...

With regards to lasik or lasek.. maybe you should ask the surgeon what is best for you.. in fact they will probably discuss all options with you.
I myself used Blackrock clinic.. cant remember the guy.. probably same as Lex.
You will get close to though not quite half back.. more than a 1/4 though.
Vivas route if you like but you can only use the one group and they are not cheap.

for proper taxation advice, you should look at the website of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners www.revenue.ie, also your local Revenue PAYE District will be happy to advise you about tax reliefs and charges, to find the correct 1890 number to dial, put your PPSN number into this tool https://www.revenue.ie/wiclo/details.jsp .

As far as i am aware, tax relief for medical expenses is at the marginal rate of 20%. You are obliged to hold onto receipts after the procedure should you be auditted or selected for verification of claims.

The new reachservices site, allows you to apply online for relief of medical expenses online. Register at www.reachservices.ie and make sure you match your profile with your Public Services identity (PSI), and also request your Revenue Online Service PIN number from revenue.ie

What's the minimum age requirement for the surgery, I've wanted to have it done for quite a while but in some places I've been told I have to wait until I'm 21 in other it's 23 (I'm 20).
