Hiya all, im new to poker.
I was planning on starting a few games of no limit texas holdem with my mates at each others houses etc...

I have a poker chip set, but i was wondering how do i set up the chips ratio in relation to blinds.

We'd only be playing for a tenner, (dont laugh - we have to start somewhere) and i feel like putting a money value on chips, like a tenners worth and blinds 10/20 cent leave it, well very pot committed at times if ya catch me.

Basically what i'm asking what ration should you start off chips and blinds.
    Thanks :)

What your implying there is a cash game ye?, you will go broke very quickly...

Have a tournament structure it will be better for all of you.

give each other 3 - 5 k each( depends on how long you wont it too last)
    Start off blinds 25/50

then say every 20 mins raise them

    25/50 50/100 75/150 etc etc etc

How many players would you be expecting to play

Just say you have 6 thats 60 euro in the pot, so you could do say 40 for first and 20 for second

thanks for the reply atlas, very helpful.

Could you give me a ratio figure for cash games?

I will admit the tournament structure makes more sense and would stop 4am finishes lol!

Cash game, if you sti in with 10 euro each you should have the blinds at around 5cent 10cent, tournaments are the way to go though

You are better off going with a tournament because im sure you will all keep playing till someone has all the money anyway and it will prevent the chance that one of your friends will win a huge pot and then decide to leave with the money. Unless of course you plan on winning a huge pot and leaving with the money then by all means go with a cash game.:D

Don't play no-limit as a home cash game, it's hard to keep the game going. You would be better off with pot-limit.

I started playing poker with a bunch of mates on a Tuesday night, we played half pot limit, with a cap of 3 raises, "to keep it friendly", it was a bit-screwy when you had aces or another big hand, but worked pretty well. Pot limit ain't that hard to figure out if you don't splash the pot (throw all the chips in the middle) get each player to put chips in front of themselves, that way you can work out what the allowable raise is..

A steep rake for beer and pizza works well I find!!

If you do contiunue to play cash games - where you can leave when you like with whatever chips you have, make the big blind between 1/50th and 1/100th of the amount people sit down with. So if everyone sits down with 10euro have the big blind 10cent of 20cent.
