I believe the TD4 engine was a BMW powerplant. Anyone have had any experience with them on the freelander?

hear that they're better than older model. havent heard anything too bad from bmw engine in them. lot of neighbours have them around where i live and i am looking for 02 at moment myself. dont know if they are as heavy on fuel as pre td4 though, hoping that its not!

The TD4 isn't too bad at all but do not go near the 1.8 petrol.

The engine might be ok, but you have to live with the rest of this SUV, like the Electric windows (the rear tail gate one is a real FLAW and fails), suspension bushes giving up early, clutch probs...........

Could go on..................avoid one. Just buy a Jap equiv.

Parents have it now 2 years in July. They love it. One small problem allright wiht the cable breaking in passenger door for electric windows. but it happeened in our 2003 passat as well. Engine is sweet. Good towing. they bought the automatic one. there going to trade it for another in July so they must be happy.

My colleague here just traded on, an '03 ES Model automatic !

He traded it with 45k on it, it requires a new turbo at 20k, and a new complete engine at 24k. Done under warranty thankfully !

    Dog slow to drive !

Also had the heater matric go and front suspension bushes !

He lost his faith in it after the second year, and lost his arse when he traded it !

Wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole at any price !

    I have a 05 t4d commerical.

28000 km, been back to dealer twice with turbo probs, very slow and alot of road noise at 80kph and up.

65 euro to fill up gets about 400-450 km but it is perm 4wd.

I would not recommend it, but it is an old design.

    Hope this helps.
