there is no way that is a screenshot! it will be a good few years before a console like can keep these kind of graphics for a game like GTA

I was always surprised at the title "GTA 4" that the magazines bandy about - San Andreas was the fourth major (i.e. non-handheld) GTA release, so surely the next game is GTA 5?

Anyways, look at the detail of the picture, and consider the GPU required to render the detail and quality of that image. Now think about that for an interactive game, and think about the Cell CPU giving it a hand for the entire time. Look at the "trademark" text.

    Totally fake.

San Andreas was the 6th major release actually: GTA, GTA: London, GTA 2, GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, GTA: San Andreas. If you note the pattern, there's a new number when it's a whole new game, and just a new subtitle when it's the same engine in a new location. Which is why the next game will be GTA 4, as has already been confirmed by Rockstar.

As for the screenshot, it's fake because these things are always fake, particularly with the logos and trademark text. Although I don't see anything technically undoable about it, does it really look any better than GRAW?

first off, GTA4 is the title because it's the fourth engine switch. GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas all ran off renderware, GTA ran off a custom engine, and GTA2 ran off a heavily upgraded version of the GTA engine. so the "numbers" are all the iterations of the engine.

fyi, the new engine is custom-built, unlike last time which was renderware (by critereon).. called RAGE (rockstar advanced games engine, i think).

as for the pic, i'd be shocked if that's an in-game shot, for all the reasons given. it's just TOO good, and the copyright notice looks like an MS Paint job
